Dear Leonard and family. We are so sorry for your loss. May the memories of Isabel help you through this difficult time. Isabel was such a wonder caring educator and friend. She is truly missed. When she wasn’t busy getting me ready for the real world we spent endless hours solving the world’s problems. She made working at the hospital so much more than just a job. She helped make it into a family.

Ms Berger (I never got to be on a first name basis with her) was my favorite English teacher. I appreciated her enthusiasm for "The Catcher in the Rye" which has remained one of my favored books to this day. She was inspiring, eloquent and kind. She will not be forgotten.

Dear Leonard and family, Please accept my deepest sympathies with Isabel`s passing. She was a wonderful woman, and a mentor to a great many people. She was genuine and giving. A lot of people owe her for being who they are today, her ability to shape the minds and characters, of young and old alike, is a testament to the wonderful person she was. I don't think it's possible to thank people, like Isabel, who have guided me - ENOUGH. We're damned to take them for granted and when they're gone, we wish we had the chance to thank them one more time.

Dear Leonard and Family, Isabel was my cherished friend, with whom I shared my most significant life moments. She was always there…routinely checking in to see how my family and I were doing. Through sacred dinners and ritual coffee breaks, Isabel cared for the details, the good, the bad and the ugly and always wanted to hear the whole story. :) She invariably showed up bearing gifts in her epic black and white striped bag. She was wonderfully predictable, generous in all the ways you can imagine, with her time, her undivided attention and of course gifts, just to name a few. She will be forever missed and we will honour her in spirit always…. My deepest condolences to you Leonard and your family. As Isabel would customarily sign off… Love you lots xx Viola and Pierre 💜

Dear family, I have been an educator for over 30 years. I became an educator due to a handful of great teachers and Ms Berger was definitely one of them. She truly made a significant impact on my life. Please know that she was really special! The St. George’s class of 1979 is celebrating its 45th Reunion in a couple of weeks and I know for sure that we will all be sharing such wonderful stories and memories of Ms. Berger. My thoughts and prayers are with you! BDH

I had the privilege of having Mrs Berger as my English teacher in highschool. I was never a strong reader as a teen. It took me years to find out that my challenge was ophthalmic, but even with my challenges, I remember Mrs Berger being a source of encouragement for me .... My sincerest condolences to her friends and family. From my perspective, she was a gifted teacher and a good person.

The St. George's class of 1982 is circulating our appreciation of "Ms. Berger" on an email chain. So even though there are few remembrances here, she is well remembered and well regarded. Ms. Berger was one of the most influential people in my life. She was a gifted teacher. She was both my advisor and my English teacher. I was a prolific reader, and also was a pretty tough teenager in some ways. Ms. Berger saw my love of literature and knew that she could be a safe anchor for me. I read a book per night. She would meet me in her office before school started to discuss the book of the night, and to just check in with me. I read many hundreds of books before the end of high school. Throughout my life, I have talked about how important she was to me, how much she helped me to love English and literature, and how much she knew how to be there for her students. St. George's was lucky to have her and I was lucky to have her. Thank you Ms. Berger.
