What a loss for your family and the community. I have had the joy and pleasure of sharing meals, get-togethers, and most wonderfully time at synagogue on High Holidays with Seymour. He always kept me on my toes with his wit, his observations, and his wisdom. We will all miss him.

Julie Gara - 10 days ago

Dear Shirley, Mark, Ronnie, Danny, and Debbie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I only got a glimpse of how awesome a man your husband / father was. I respected both Seymour & Shirley for having raised such wonder children and for sustaining a happy marriage for 69 years. What amazing role models both Seymour & Shirley were! I have always admired Seymour for continuing to go to work, at a profession that he loved, for so many years after he could have retired. But most of all, I fondly remember Seymour’s genuine smile and warm greeting whenever I went over to the Levine family’s home. He always called me “Big Julie,” and it was only recently that he explained to me why. It’s not often that I’m in the NDG area, but whenever I pass the tennis courts on Hingston Avenue, right by the Levine home, I think of Seymour’s warmth and humour that always greeted me there. He will forever be remembered fondly by me and everyone who knew him. Julie Gara

Dear Mark, I did not know your Dad well at all, having met him and your dear Mom a few times when we were in high school. However, if a man can be known by the light his children and grandchildren have shone on the world, then he was very special. My deepest sympathies to you and your entire family.

Henry Gitelman - 12 days ago

On behalf of Henry and myself Lewis, deepest heartfelt sympathies. My father knew and I believe was a student of Seymour from his engineering days late 50s and a trusted colleague ever since. I know there were always words of wisdom and inquiry when I picked up drawings from Seymour’s office on Somerled and when we lived briefly on Hingston.

Steve Shector - 12 days ago

Dear Shirley and Family, My sincerest condolences. A nice memory I have of you and Seymor was: You’d be cycling, come over to our house (Clara 104(now) and Lindley passed away 13 years ago at 91) and knock on the garage door...and come in for an unannounced visit. My parents were very fond of both you and Seymor. Take care, Steve Shector

Dear Shirley and the whole family. We share your sadness on the passing of Seymour. He was a true friend and always ready to help in his quiet respectful way. He planted extra tomato seeds so that we too would be sure of a good crop in our garden. He will be missed and remembered.

David Perlin - 12 days ago

My condolences to Shirley, Danny and other members of the Levine Family. I will always have fond memories from high school of many Shabbat dinners at the Levine house. There was wonderful food provided by Shirley and Seymour always asking questions about our science classes. :) He made you think about how to solve problems, in my opinion, the sign of a great engineer. Seymour was also generous of his time and came to the rescue of our Westhill High water polo team. We had no coach and wouldn’t have had a team if not for him offering to be there for practices and games.

Andrea & George Elbaz - 12 days ago

Seymour Levine was a special man. He was a teacher to George at the School of Architecture and in our professional lives we had the pleasure to work with him on numerous projects. I once invited him over because he said I owed him a coffee for some advice he had given me. I baked him a cake and we talked about furnaces and mechanical systems. He always graded me after our conversations and he gave me an A+ even though I never went to university. I smile when i think of Seymour. Cherish the memories, Andrea.

Dear Shirley & family, We were so saddened to hear of Seymour's passing. Seymour and my father Arthur were life long friends since their days at McGill. I will fondly remember speaking to Seymour every time he and Arthur met for lunch. As well when my dad passed Seymour gave me the most sage advice that going to daily services would help me and it did. Seymour was one of a kind and I appreciate how much you will miss him as I do Arthur. Wishing everyone long life and may his memories help you at this sad time.

Michael Meltzer & Katherine Kay - 13 days ago

Dear Debbie, Ronnie, Mark and Danny, Some losses affect us more deeply than others. I don't why I'm feeling this one so deeply, but it's probably a combination of the special relationship our families have had since before the day I was born, the many special memories and the special man Seymour was. We are deeply sorry to hear about his passing. We won't be able to make the funeral or shiva because we're travelling right now, but we'll be thinking of you, your families and Seymour and Shirley.

Paula Speevak and Paul Wertman - 13 days ago

My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Levine family, We have known SEYMOUR and Shirley for many years both at Shaare Zedek and SEYMOUR professionally. He was a class act all through his career and a fine human being! His work over many years at the Jewish Général was important and appreciated by a succession of managers and the tough construction committee. From time to time we enjoyed meeting them on the bike trail on their bicycle built for 2. They touched many people who will remember them fondly. May you be comforted by the wonderful memories of your life together. Carole and Myer
