Dear Joel, Elaine, Enid, and Carolyn I was so sorry to hear of Rose's passing. What a blessing though to have reached such a great age. I fondly remember so many sides to Rose first from the perspective of me being a young patient in Hymie's office, and, later as a close family friend. She will be missed.

Dear Enid, My sincere condolences to you and your family. Although I never met your Mother, I was so impressed reading about her wonderful accomplishments. She must have been a very special lady and you were so lucky to have her as your Mom.

Rosalie (Smolkin) Kane - 7 days ago

Dear Joel (and Elaine), Carolyn and Enid. Please accept my condolences on the death of your mother. I am so struck by the details of her biography (she graduated as a nurse two years before I was born--and her later education at McDonald College was an intellectual adventure similar to that of her brother Mike. Even her avocations were wonderful.) I did not really know Rose except through the branch of the Wisenthals--Mike and Dorothy et al--that is so closely entwined with my own life and I just met her briefly at widely separated intervals. But I find everything about that biography inspiring--her life surely was, is and will be a blessing. I did happen to be in the Ottawa area from July 30 until August 6, but I did not learn this sad news until my return to Minneapolis yesterday. My thoughts are with you and I am sorry I am not still around to pay respects at the shiva. I hope to catch up with you, Joel and Elaine, in the Ottawa areas some time soon--or when you next visit Minneapolis.

Enid, Carolyn, and Joel: Three years ago I joined your family in a celebration of Rose's 100th (and my 61st) birthday - it was a remarkable milestone and joyous event. Enid often took me to visit her mother, both at Baycrest and Sage Care, and I was always received with a warm smile and good conversation. Rose led an exceptional life, and her intelligence, interest in the world, and love of nature were passed on to her children. I am blessed to have known this lovely woman.
