Having worked at McGill University for over 47 years, I knew Howard. He was a lovely man!! And we found out that we were distantly related through an aunt on my Dad's side of my family; she married a Heitner and he vaguely knew the family. Howard was what I considered to be soft-spoken and everyone liked him. May you rest in peace dear man!

Dear Elaine, Michael and Tamara, it is with great sadness that I learned of Howard's passing. I will always cherish the memories of him leading our family seders and running across the room to make it in the group pictures in time for the shot. Thanks to his photographic tradition, we have a remarkable collection of family memories. His absence will surely be felt.

Howard's smile as he sat across from me the times we talked will never be forgotten. Matched only by his thoughtful intelligence and his willingness to listen to other perspectives, he was a very special man. I can still hear his voice as somehow, with few words, he had me in deep thought and wrapped in the magic of possibilities on any given subject. Elaine, our last face to face conversation was in regards to his 50 years spent in your company; he felt very blessed and told me the rest of his life would be icing on a wonderful cake in regards to his life and his marriage to you. I am so sorry for the loss of someone like Howard and as the world cries, I sit and I see his smile and feel extremely grateful. Rest in Peace Howard in the knowledge that you were loved by many.

Elaine, I was shocked to notice Howard's obit in the paper. Not fair, he was too young, too nice, a straight forward person who enjoyed life. I always had a good time catching up with him when we would run into one another every couple of years.

To the Heitner family - Howard's pleasant demeanour always greeted me, whether at Shaare Zion where we'd exchange a quip or longer story, when we'd bump into each other somewhere, or even while visiting with him in the hospital after his cardiac event. Please accept my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy. At the end of the Shofar service, when Howard was front and centre, we recite, "Ashrei ha'am yo'd'ei truah--Happy is the people that know the sound of the Shofar;" the people who have known Howard are saddened by his passing, but are happy to have known him.

Dear Elaine, It was with great sadness that I read of your loss. I remember you and Howard with great fondness from our carefree days at Radio McGill. Indeed, it was a direct result of Howard’s invitation that I first set foot there, and from where I launched a life-long career in broadcasting. I will always remember Howard’s enthusiasm, dedication and eagerness to help and teach.

My deepest condolence to the family and friends of Howard Heitner. I am sad to know that I will not see his smiling face or meeting him walking down Sherbrooke Street. I was prevailed to be hired by Howard in 1980 at McGill University and I appreciate the opportunity he gave me to work for McGill University and I have never looked back. He was very enthusiastic in his job and I noticed his great dedication in making the NCS Data Centre a high tech department. No doubt, he was committed to his job and did it very well. I am proud to have worked with Howard as my Manager at the NCS Data Centre. May God give you pease as you remember the passing of your loved one. May he rest in peace. Carlette.

Dear Heitner family, It has been many years since my employment from SZC, and I must relay to you what a fine and intelligent man Howard was. Whenever I had to work on something, that involved Howard’s insight or feedback; Howard was always such a kind and gentle gentleman. He always got back to me right away, and whenever he was in the office he would lend a helping hand to whomever needed it and always with a smile and a twinkle in his bright blue eyes. May he Rest In Peace and May all his memories be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. My deepest condolences.

Howard, my manager at Mcgill, was humble, some people did not know he had a last name. He was focused to get the job done right. He was dedicated to Mcgill and at the same time he did not forget his family for a second. It was not only our work which we shared . An integral part of his life was learning the intricacies of Judaism. I was very flattered that he would sit down in my office before he went upstairs to his, and ask me why we do this and why we do not do that. He was a person who gave himself over to his community in many ways. I am paticulary indebted to him for his contribution to Mcgill in making the environment, sociable and open. I was shocked when Elaine called me to say that Howard was seriously ill and even more shocked when she called me to say that he passed away. Boruch Dayan Emes. May his soul be bound up with the Everlasting.
