Dear Gideon, Tunny, and Lucie, I was saddened to learn of David's passing. He was a devoted father to his sons and a great friend to many. He was fearless about speaking out when his sense of fair play was violated, and he did so with clarity, elegance, and wit. As they would no doubt say back in the Center of the Universe—Winnipeg North—he was a mensch in every sense of the word.

We both met David at Concordia University decades ago not in the English Department but rather in the various corridors exchanging about governance and faculty issues at the university and beyond. David was good at making interesting conversations and his sense of humour was appreciated. Later on we discovered and were pleased that he became the companion of Lucie, a long-time friend. With that nice development we discovered David the traveller benefitting from tips about hotels and places of interest, and David the gardener at his home in N.D.G. He continued to be interested in public affairs and remained an avid reader of printed materials. We were sad to learn of the passing of David. We offer David’s sons and their immediate families as well as Lucie and their many friends our sincere condolences. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Louise Carpentier, Retired Librarian and Lawrence Kryzanowski, Professor of Finance Concordia University

David was a wonderful friend. He had an amazing memory so he rembered everything one told him. He could have written a book about Jewish Winnipeg in the forties and fifties. He knew every body’s relationships and what they did and where they are now . He included us in the Jewish holiday dinners at his son’s family, Gideon, Natalie, Azriel, and Benjamin. They were warm, lively and delicious meals with wonderful people. He loved his partner, Lucie, and it was a pleasure to hear him talk about her accomplishments and his desire to buy her things that she frequently did not allow! David was interested in everything and loved to read and discuss. We will miss him and our lives will be less rich without him.

To the entire Sheps family, My sincere condolences. Dr. Sheps was my professor many years ago when I was pursuing my Master's Degree in English at Concordia. David was a man who had magnificence in all matters. His shining intellect, his humour not to mention his love of conversation made me admire and adore him.
