Ben Humphrey - 23 days ago
My name is Ben Humphrey. Marilyn's eldest granddaughter, Lauren Schreiber, is my fiance. I want to offer my condolences to the Schreiber’s and the entire extended family. I too had a grandmother named Marilyn. She sadly passed away last fall at 83. After her passing, Grandma Schreiber sent me a surprising email wishing me and my family her deepest sympathies. I was struck by that act of kindness, both from a sentimental point of view given we had only met in person once or twice, but also that she was so plugged in with email as that wasn't the case with my grandparents! I know Grandma Schreiber will be missed, but in her memory, I hope we all learn from her actions by not hesitating to reach out to friends and family. I have no doubt it was one of her strongest traits, and it's something I hope to emulate going forward in my life. Sincerely, Ben Humphrey

Dear Bill, Donny, Ricky and Brian, Growing up together so many years ago, and remembering them as they were yesterday. Auntie Marilyn, her bubbling smile and the pleasure she took in making others happy. Your house was at many times mine to hang out in, and she had the best snacks. I will miss her. May her memory inspire you and the generations to come.
Robert Schwartz - 25 days ago
Around 40 years ago, Marilyn became my sister’s mother in law. Unfortunately, Susan and Ricky’s marriage didn’t last but we all still considered Marilyn, the rest of the Schreibers and the Corbers to be family. And even though I haven't seen Marilyn in a long time, she left an indelible mark. I can hear that husky, velvety voice and I can feel her kind warmth. I think she was one of the most inviting and generous people I’ve ever met. So, Bill, Donny, Ricky, Brian, Suzanne, Harriet, Marvin, Deborah and Michael, I know you will keep thinking of Marilyn and smiling. May her memory be for a blessing. Love, Robert

I miss you so much, Grandma. I will always love you. You gave us all so much: love, wisdom, guidance and wit. But what I will remember most is how much of an impact you had on my father and indirectly me, too. Echoing my father’s words, I am so grateful for instilling the value of education in our family from the get go. It a a legacy that will leave on for generations in the Schreiber family. Anything is possible with education and you gave my father that drive, which he then passed down to me and my sisters. Grandpa, I love you so much as well and pray for your health and well-being during this time.

Dear Bill, I am so very sorry to hear the news about Marilyn. She was the first one to engage with me when I would come home to find the ladies there playing Mah Jongg - always with a big smile and full of interest in the latest news from California. And the New Year's Eve that my Mom and I spent with you two definitely stands out as one of my favorite nights for bringing in the New Year. My sincerest condolences to you and your whole family.

Growing up in St. Laurent, the Schreiber household was my home away from home where I spent countless hours for many years. I was and still am very close with Brian , and Marilyn welcomed me into her home and especially into her kitchen with opened arms. She was a great cook and baker and loved to talk. I was a great eater and a pretty good listener, so we got along famously. Being both a mother and a teacher, she was very interested in our generation, and I can still hear her inimitable rich voice asking me pointed questions, as well as sharing with me her thoughts and concerns. She had a very big heart and I always felt so comfortable and at ease in her presence. I left Montreal after university so I haven't seen her in a very long time but I have thought about her often over the years, as she left quite an impact on me. It was wonderful to spend an hour with her and the extended family on Brian's birthday this past May via Zoom. She will be dearly missed by many. That she was able to spend her last months at home surrounded by her family was a blessing that she so well deserved. My heartfelt condolences go to Bill, Don, Ricky, Brian and Suzanne and may her memory be a blessing to you all. Love, Brian

Since I was not able to be at the ceremony in person to share my thoughts and memory of my grandmother Marilyn, I would like to post here. Grandma - it feels like yesterday when we were chatting on the phone and I told you I *almost* lost my coworker's cat. You shared my same feelings of horror but also reminded me that we both think dogs are better than cats. :) Since that day we spoke, your physical health declined rapidly and our conversations became much more limited. I have many fond memories of us from the past ~31 years. The many summers spent at Grandpa's and your condo in Côte Saint-Luc. We would go over to the mall and sometimes, if I was lucky, get my nails or hair done at the same salon you visited every week. You always had fresh Montreal bagels and the toaster oven seemed to work 24/7 toasting more and more bagels for us. The last time I saw you in person was September 30, 2019. It was exactly one year before your passing. We came over before heading to the airport for a late lunch. You always made sure we were well fed. This trip was also when you gifted my sister Nicole and me our beautiful pearl necklaces. I am wearing them now as I write this and will continue to in your honor for the rest of my life. It was so moving to watch our family share their memories of you at your funeral on Friday. Especially to watch my father, Donald, your eldest son. I can see what you instilled in him -- his relentless focus on education and learning, his love for family night dinners, his caring and nurturing disposition, and of course his love for bagels. I hope these same values and traits are passed on to my generation and generations to come. Thank you for always being there for us, despite our family being so far away in California. Thank you for all your calls and emails. I especially loved the "no subject" ones - those were always special surprises. Thank you for always remembering my birthday and other special occasions. Thank you for being my grandmother. Please rest in peace. Love, Lauren

Dear Suzanne, Bill, Donald, Ricky and Brain I share in your sadness. May you and family know no more sorry. Alanna and family

"Uncle Bill", Don, Ricky, Brian, Suzanne, Harriet and Marvin: I am saddened to learn of "Auntie" Marilyn's passing. I've known her my entire life as she and my late mother were not only classmates at Macdonald College but were pregnant together. The Schreibers gave me one of my most cherished wedding gifts which I still enjoy almost 46 years later! "Auntie" Marilyn stayed in touch with me for many, many years following my mother's death and each message shared her pride of her family (and lots of photos). I hope that your memories bring solace at this sad time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Ellen

About 62 years ago, I met Donald in grade 1 and by extension got to meet and know the whole Schreiber clan led by Mom Marilyn. I ski patrolled with Bill and often saw Donnie and Ricky in Whistler but always knew that Marilyn was the behind the scenes manager of the family giving all 4 kids and Bill the leeway to really enjoy all parts of life and to succeed at their various endeavors and passions. We would all take 93 (unless you are 93!) and know that it was a life to celebrate, which is I am sure how she would want it.

Dear Bill, Donald, Ricky , Brian, Suzanne, both Schreiber and Corber families. We extend to you our most heartfelt sympathies on the loss of such a treasured woman and close friend of our mother Clara. Their relationship dated back to Macdonald College where they both earned their teaching diploma. They were the same age. Their friendship included lunches and bridge games and comparing notes with each other as parents as they both watched their 4 children grow up at about the same time. In the last few years, Susan would regularly run into Marilyn at Cavendish Mall and they would talk and catch up with each other. Marilyn was always asking about both our mother and all of us. She was such a special lady and we will all miss her. We can only hope that your cherished memories will help sustain you in the days ahead. Baruch Dayan Ha'emet.
