Dearest Ilana I’m saddened to hear about your profound loss. Although I have never met your dear father, Stacey’s obituary tells much of a holocaust survivors, strength, courage and will to survive, followed by a life full of gratitude to god, kindness and charity. I know the “type” as my dear mother was a Holocaust survivor as well. The testament to your father’s life trials and tribulations that shaped him to the character of the man he was, is reflected in the goodness of the legacy he leaves behind in you and your beautiful family. May you , Michael and the kids be sparred further sorrow and may his soul Rest In Peaceful heaven.

Mark Yaffe - 24 days ago

I first met Stacey many years ago through my wife Phyllis, an artist and art historian. She assured me that I would enjoy encounters with Stacey and would learn a lot form him. She was absolutely right!...It has been said that Art often portrays life. It has also been said that Art imitates life. But Stacey WAS LIFE. Visits to the stores on Cote des Neiges or on Jean Talon for framing was like a visit to a friend. A warm, welcoming smile; an enquiry about our families or about work; or a polite discussion about politics. We would walk into the store awed by decisions we had to make, and left with a feeling of having been nurtured. Patience and wise guidance was given as we agonized over frames and mats, and Stacey treated our paintings and prints as if they were the most important in the world.....But Stacey was more than this: he was a man of conviction and strong personal values. On one occasion he framed a very large certificate my father received as part of an international academic honor. Stacey gently refused to accept payment for this, stating it was his way of helping to commemorate academic excellence. My father was very moved by this and shared this story with many, as I do now. It was indeed a privilege to have known Stacey.

Dear Aline & family, Please accept my deepest sympathies on Stacey’s passing. My late father Irwin and Stacey’s friendship went way back. I remember my dad taking me to visit Stacey’s studio close to 50 years ago. Stacey always seemed to have a great, positive outlook, all the more remarkable as I recall (and will never forget) my dad telling me of Stacey’s seemingly insurmountable hardships in Poland. The life he made and his disposition is an inspiration to all. My dad was VERY fond of Stacey, and so were my family and I. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, Lorne

Maureen Roth - 25 days ago

Dear Bank’s Family, I am so sad to learn of Stacey's passing. I met Stacey over a year ago at McDonalds after not seeing him for many years. Whenever I did go there, Stacey would be holding court and telling everyone about his trips down memory lane and wonderful stories about the old country. My first encounter with Stacy was many years ago when I went to his studio on Cote-des-Neiges and later to his Jean Talon store to have some paintings restored and others framed. I took his suggestions seriously and have no regrets because he was never wrong! I hope that knowing how much others care will help lessen the pain that you feel today. May you find comfort in the knowledge that all the wonderful memories of Stacey that you have stored away will keep him with you and in your hearts forever. Maureen Roth

Whenever there was a celebration in our family, be it a wedding, bar mitzvah or graduation, Stacey always played an important role: he framed our moments of happiness. our late mother Rhea would only ever trust Stacey with the important task in memorializing these joyous events by framing photos and diplomas that were all over her home. As you may know, Stacey was a treasured honorary member of my mother's family. We last saw him at our Uncle Kieve's funeral and are so sad to learn of his passing, as it is as if we have lost part of our family as well. Dear Bank Family, Our sincerest condolences to you on the passing of your beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. We have many fond memories of Stacey. He was our "framer" par excellence until he retired; his first choice for a frame was always the one we went with, notwithstanding the many other options he would show us. It was never only a business visit - we spent time together discussing world events, but mainly family. Stacey was warm, intelligent and extremely talented. May many wonderful memories and a lifetime of stories comfort you all at this very sad time. Donna and Eric Rodier

Moishe and Miriam Grunzeweig - 26 days ago

Dear Aline, Miriam, Clara and Rachel and all the mishpacha. I felt a great loss and sadness' upon hearing of Stacey's passing. I first met Stacey through Miriam's friendship with the Bank family. I immediately felt a bond with him through his stories of life in Europe and the war against the Jews. It was obvious to me that both of us were of the opinion that we were never going to forget or forgive the atrocities and murder of our families and people. This began my friendship and love of listening to Stacey and his stories. Often I would visit him at his framing shop but never to discuss frames and only to hear more stories. An hour would fly by very quickly. In later years when I would bump into him at McDonalds I would go over to say hello and I would tell him I only had a very short minute to stay. Of course i would stay mesmorized for another 30 minutes . Stacey was a real Mensch and a good friend. Our deepest sympathies. Moishe and Miriam

Carmela & Michael Mindel - 27 days ago

Dear Aline and family. As a teenager, I met Stacey and learned that he was the son of my father’s cousin - who somehow had survived the war in Poland. My wife and I got to know Stacey and Aline over the years. I would enjoy going out for long lunches with Stacey and hear his great stories. He was an engaging raconteur - he was warm and loving - and Carmela and I were lucky to have known him. I once sat him down in front of my computer and managed to transcribe several events he had lived through - in Poland - onto my family tree program for posterity. His best story involved a colourful meeting with Soviet General Georgy Zhukov - who was the leader of the Red Army as it swept through Poland to Berlin. He will always be remembered most fondly. Carmela and I send the family our deepest sympathies.

Dear Aline, Miriam, Clara and Rachel and all the family. I was deeply saddened when I heard of Stacey’s passing. I have known the Bank family since my childhood and have always thought of Stacey as the nicest, most caring person. When we would bump into each other at the mall, he would always ask how our family was doing, and you knew that he really wanted to know. I will never forget that the very first work of art that Stacey framed when we got married is still hanging in my living room and holds a special place in my heart. Our deepest condolences. May all your cherished memories help to ease your pain. Miriam and Moishe

Dear Miriam, Clara, Rachel, Aline and families, So sad to hear of Stacey's passing, but at the same time, it just brought me back to my childhood days, when I would hang out with Miriam at your St Cyril house in Outremont, listening to your mother's and Stacey's wonderful stories from the old country. In his later years, Stacey had an uncanny resemblance to your late mom. Every framing visit to his Cote des Neiges and later his Jean Talon Stores were filled with a trip down memory lane or talking about the Arts or History. When we moved to Cote St Luc 7 years ago, we were always happy to bump into and catch up with Stacey at Trudeau Park or the mall. He was the true essence of a Mensch. His memory will always be a blessing and he will live in your hearts forever. With our deepest sympathies. Brenda & Steve

Back in the mid 1950’s a group of us began a friendship that would span six and a half decades. It all began at the home of Stacey’s parents where we honed our Poker skills on the way to adulthood. Those days were pre-Ste. Agathe days when Schwartzman’s Farm was an affordable alternative. Several years ago there was a reunion at the farm and many of us went up and attended as a group. Over the years we stayed in touch as much as possible but sometimes life gets in the way. We all aged and over the years, some didn’t make the cut. Today we lost one of the principle members, Stacey Bank, who never tired of telling us anecdotes and stories about hiding from German soldiers in Europe to fishing trips up North in Canada. He will be missed by all who knew him over the years and those he met in recent times. Rest in peace, my friend.
