We grew up spending celebrations with the Merson family. Ben was always friendly, fun and caring. Lots of childhood memories of Evelyn and Ben and Doreen , Mark and Beverly (who is my age). All of them left a positive impression all these years later. Of course, I always bought my tires from him too! A nice man who had a fulfilling life.

Dear Merson Family...I first met Ben when I was just a young pup of 62, interviewing potential members for Cote St. Luc's vCOPS. When he filled out the application form, I couldn't believe his age. He was so active and "with it". This was about 15 years ago. I was often his partner on the shifts, when we discussed cars, motors, and tires. Then he told me about putting studs on tires; how he was the first. He was a true connection to Montreal's past, and its present. May the family be spared any future sorrow,

On behalf of my wife, Rochelle, please accept our sincere condolences. Though we don't know much of the family history, we had the pleasure of an evening spent with Ben and my Uncle Lionel several winters ago where Ben picked us up at a downtown hotel, navigated the icy winter Montreal roads to bring us to one his favourite restaurants and mesmerized us with his detailed and witty history of the Albert and related families. And we remember how he wouldn't leave the restaurant without buying cookies to bring home to Suzanne. He left us with a warm comfort feeling and a smile on our faces that has remained with us to this day.

Dear Suzanne and family, My family has sat in front you and Ben during the High Holiday services for many years. We have always felt as one extended family with you behind us. Ben seemed indestructible. Always a smile, a hug, and enthusiasm for the prayers and melodies. Sometimes he stood and sometimes he sat, but his presence was constant and reliable. We could feel how much he loved being in the sanctuary and his enthusiasm was contagious. We are truly saddened by this news. Such a hole in our HH family cannot be filled. We will long remember this fine gentleman. May you know no more sorrow. Sadly, Sarah, Danny, Mikey and Gabby Samra

Covid took my grandfather today but never our memories. Ben Merson will always live on in the hearts of his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren and his extended family and friends. He loved his family, his golf, his backgammon, his skiing. He lived a full 98 years and passed away today on the phone hearing final goodbyes from his family who loved him dearly. I hope you find a great mountain to ski and a fun 18 to play. Make sure to remind folks it isn’t about the strength of the swing but the proper position. Sing and pray and make sure to do it loud and out of tune (but always with great spirit). We will make some challah french toast soldiers and hot chocolate in your honor. We love you, Zaida. Rest In Peace.
