To the Shapiro Family, I want to wish you my deepest sympathy. Sylvia was my teacher at Gardenview also. I never knew she had a first name....she was Mrs. Shapiro to all of us. I can still conjugate all my French verbs very well. May your fond memories sustain you at this most difficult time.

Dear Marla, I have fond memories of your mom's French class at Gardenview when I moved to VSL. She was welcoming and made learning French so easy. I still remember "Voilà Monsieur Thibault, voici Madame Thibault from grade 5." You were fortunate to have her for so many years. May you be blessed with wonderful memories. Glenda

Dear Zozzie and Marla and family, Not only did I have your mom as a french teach at Gardenview school, but imagine my surprise when I bought next door to your parents.. There I was with my 2 girlfriends watching your mom in the kitchen window , waving Mrs. Shapiro, there we were adults and still intimidated by seeing one of our teachers.. Your parents were wonderful, helpful and shared many funny stories with us..It was a great neighbourhood...May you all enjoy a very long and healthy life..

My condolences to the family. I had her for French in grades 5 and 6. She was an excellent teacher and we worked well together. I remember her saying 'Where's your verb? Gone for a beer? Nice that she lived a long and wonderful life.

As a former teacher at Gardenview Elementary in the late 60’s, I was fortunate to spend time with Sylvia, especially in the staff room. She was one of the funniest women I have ever met. She was also a great raconteur of stories. May she Rest In Peace. Terry Berenbaum Cohen
