So sorry to hear of Irwins leaving us all...I never forgot him..we worked together for 6 years...he as school principal and me as the new school secretary. It was quite a challenge...we grew together and he listened to all my stories of hardship raising 4 girls alone and I listened to his family history and all about his travels ...and more. I still have souvenirs that he brought me back from his travels....when he retired I took him for lunch...he told me how proud of me he was. This I never forgot. Until last year I would receive a yearly letter of all his adventures. I truly love this very sincere caring man who made such a great memory in my life. Keep on biking Mr. Waldman. Xx

So many memories of family holiday dinners together and Zuncle Irwin. He was alway present and kind to us kids. And there were always a lot of us! Whether at Nana’s at the kids table or at your home I always eagerly looked forward to holidays with everyone. I also have a vivid memory of jumping on the trampoline at Maniwaki! I thought you guys owning a camp was the coolest thing! (I can’t begin to imagine the stress of it now! But Irwin always was calm and friendly and warm to the cousins. Mostly he was passionate & involved with your family. What a legacy. I know you will miss him dearly. I’m so sorry Auntie Elsa, and everyone.

Irwin was a truly special person and someone I always used as my role model for living life with passion and verve. I mean, can anyone name a single other person they have ever met who at age 90 was still completing 100 kilometer bicycle races? Irwin was quietly unique with a strong sense of adventure. I'll miss you, Uncle Irwin.

Linda & Wally - 7 days ago

Wally and I were honoured to be a part of Irwin’s extended family and we enjoyed his company immensely. He was worldly wise, inquisitive, determined and he loved a challenge. Irwin was a ‘raconteur extraordinaire’ and he would hold us spellbound with tales of his youth and adventures. A loving, thoughtful and caring gentleman, he held his family dear and he was a wonderful role model for his kids and his grandchildren. We are so privileged to have known Irwin and we will always cherish the many family gatherings that we shared with this incredible man. May he rest in peace! Our Sincere Sympathies, Linda and Wally

Elsa, Ricky, Ellen & Martin, and the rest of the Waldman family It has been decades since Camp Maniwaki, times I treasure in my life's memories. I know I have very fond memories of all of you, as well as the Camp Maniwaki family. I particularly enjoyed the Arts & Crafts, Elsa's specialty. Survival hikes out in the forests with just a sleeping bag (and a parachute) and "Sarge." Nothing more imposing and contributing to the absolute delight of a teen camper was the guidance of the camp's owner and director, Irwin Waldman. Those seven summers were the best of my life and I remember them as though they were yesterday. I can't imagine the sense of loss of one so involved with family and community both as a patriarch and teacher. I send my deepest and sincerest condolences to the entire family on Irwin's passing. You are all a very special clan. I hope that all the enjoyable memories of times past will help assuage your grief in this sad time. David Winikoff Washington, DC

Rick and Alison I just saw the sad news I am so sorry When I got the Rideau lakes cancellation email my first thought was oh no what's Irwin going to do Although you had to deal with him on a daily basis I only got to spend two days a year with him at RL were unforgettable Especially last year when I had to give it my all to avoid him leaving me eating his dust My deepest sympathies Rick It's never easy to lose an immediate family member at any age I'm hoping that god will give you and your family the strength to get through the upcoming difficult period It is ironic we are going through extraordinary times and he was an extraordinary guy Mark
