Dear Carol and Harvey and Family, My condolences on the loss of your mother Myrtle. I remember her and your father from the days we lived on Westluke, and then, as a fellow realtor, I can see Myrtle, in her 80's, running down the street, on her way to an Open House- with all the gusto of a young woman. May her memory be a blessing.

Great remembrances of the house on Westluke that was so welcoming in the early 60's. Myrtle's countenance always positive even when she and my mother each told Harvey &I to stop hanging out together because we got into too much trouble. It was always fun to run into her as we raided her fridge (and tried to avoid Mac). Recent years proved how well she was thought of by the whole family, and Merle and I stayed well aquainted (through Harvey) with how the whole family held her in such high regard. Love to you.

Sandy Cytrynbaum - 28 days ago

I am so sorry to hear of Myrtle's passing. She was a remarkable woman who knew the seriousness of life as well as the fun of it. She was one of the first cousins I met, and immediately I took to her. May the family (a full tribe by now) remember her for those fun days, the love and and concern for her children and grandchildren, for her sisters and their families, and the shared memories of good times. My heartfelt sympathies to all.

Dear Carol, Zutty, Robby, Wendy and Daniel. Very sorry to hear about Myrtle. I have distinct memories of her from the days I spent so much time at your house on Dufferin. She was a force to be reckoned with, wrapped in a small package and cute squeaky voice. What a role model of how to live your senior years. Special shout out to Robby, one of my besties, who I think got as much from all his visits to see her as she did. May all those great memories give all of you comfort moving forward.

Jane and Larry Plotnick - 28 days ago

Our sincere sympathies. We may not have known Myrtle, but in great thanks to Jodi and Robby, we now feel we know her, and can better understand the tremendous loss of everyone who knew and loved her. Quite an impressive lady, and perhaps the matriarch of the family. She was blessed with a ‘wonderful life’ surrounded by love. We never part with those we love, as they are with us always in heart and spirit. May the family all find the comfort in those memories that are yours to cherish, and there certainly seem to be so very many; strength in the friendships of those who share this loss; and, may all be spared further sorrow. Special blessings

Condolences to the family on your loss. I came to know Myrtle at Maimonides when I visited my mom, who was her roommate. She always had a smile, and complimented me whenever I wore something brightly coloured or patterned. She enjoyed a good schmooze about fashion. We’ll miss her.

Dear Stark and Sculnick families, Please accept my condolences on the loss of your beloved Myrtle. My sympathies also go to Ros, all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews... I remember Myrtle most for her friendliness, sense of humour, and cute freckles! I'd see her whenever I went (in the '50s!) to visit Carol on Grand Blvd. so that Carol & I could go roller-skating along Monkland. I also remember her dear Mac - my brother Dan and I would see him play in the Snowdon Fastball League. I remember thinking that Myrtle and Mac were so perfect for each other - each with good humour and twinkling eyes, and obvious great mutual affection. I hope your loss will be tempered just knowing that they'll be together again at last. I wish you all well and no more sorrow!

Jodi Stark - 29 days ago

"As if the wind had nothing better to do than tickle my face". My Bubby Myrtle was staunchly independent woman who charted her own course in life. She was strong, unassailable in her goals, and truly relentless - in all the good and challenging ways. Though I don't think she defined herself this way, in some ways she was a trail-blazing feminist. She was the bread winner in the family while my grandfather cared for the kids which was highly unusual in the 50s & 60s. She wore big chunky, funky jewelry. She travelled. The first time I heard the term 'green thumb' was in reference to her. She most definitely had a magical touch with plants. She was a master knitter, but I don't think I ever got a sweater from her! While most people would retire in their late 60s and actually have time to knit, my grandmother went back to school to get her high school diploma and real estate licence and then started a 20 + year career in real estate! I'll never forget the facepalms when I first saw her Royal LePage add in the Yellow Pages for "Myrtle $tark". You wouldn't want to be on the opposite end of a negotiating table from her. She came from humble beginning in pre-WWII Poland. Recently she told me about how coming from a small house with packed dirt floors in Poland, she was amazed to have a floor in her home when she moved to Montreal when she was 11. It's a hard to imagine the extent of the changes that have occurred around her in her lifetime! But her love and commitment to the late and great Mac Bear Stark was a constant throughout, despite outliving him by over 30 years. I'm comforted in knowing that their souls can finally reunite now. My grandmother lived for her last years (and ultimately died) in a care home in Montreal, Maimonides. I have so much respect and gratitude to the staff there who cared for her, communicated so well with my aunt and dad through this rough time, and gave her as much of a dignified death as they could. I'm also grateful to my cousin Robby who was a wonderful friend to her in her later years as she slipped into dementia. As someone who was a work horse her whole life, Rob taught her to play. He experienced and documented some beautiful moments with her where she explored, appreciated and even reveled in that playfulness and the simple things in life like feeling the breeze tickle her face (in her words) "as if the wind had nothing better to do than tickle my face". Thanks everyone for all your love and support and big love to my family.

Robby Sculnick - 29 days ago

"We didn't have a floor" was one of Myrtle's earliest recollections of her youth in Poland and that, along with the family's just-in-time flight to Canada, instilled in her a tenacious work ethic.  When she wasn't tending shop or managing the business, she'd knit, sew, garden, cook, and dominate the bridge table. It was only in her mid-sixties, after the loss of her charming husband, Mac, that Myrtle earned her highschool diploma, immediately applying that certificate towards attaining a realtor license.  You very much wanted her on your side of negotiations throughout the ensuing 20 year career, that's what so often got her picture at the top of the portrait pyramid in the agency's newspaper ads. It was a series of medical issues leading up to her 90th birthday that coerced her, defiantly, into retiring her car, then her work, and, ultimately, her apartment, but that hardly slowed her down. She remained as active as ever at Maimonides; creating elaborate paintings, working out 5 days a week at the gym, attending concerts, socializing with neighbors, and reading - all with the boundless compassion and infinite support of the facility's staff and Rose. Bubby and I spent many lovely visits together since my return to Montreal a decade ago. We'd picnic in the garden, surf the web for rocket launches and butterfly videos, hunt groundhogs, explore hidden treasures in the basement, and socialize with anyone who had a minute to chat, but her favorite activity by far was scrolling thru photos and videos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on my phone. In addition to everything else, she and I were friends. Already a decade old, here's the link to a treasure of photos: https://tinyurl.com/ycwrn3m6 With love and best wishes, my condolences to family, friends and associates. Be well.
