To all of Herbie's family, children, Peter and Gia. On behalf of the Baron Byng High School (BBHS) Reunion Committee please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Herbie. In reading all the condolences left for Herbie, we lost an icon of a human being. Thank you Herbie for all your unconditional love you gave to your family, friends and to the world. This is the year we were to celebrate our 60th BBHS Reunion but unfortunately due to the Coronavirus it was postponed. Although I only met Herbie at past Reunions, I noticed that some of my BBHS classmates that graduated the same year (1960) as Herbie did send in condolences. The BBHS Reunion Committee will always remember you! Our thoughts are with you at this most sad and difficult time. Gus Gross

David Bronstein - 21 days ago

Dear Cousins, I am so sad about your father’s passing. I have such fond memories of your dad, our Uncle Herbie—how warm, affectionate, and loving he was, how gentle and generous. He had in him the spirit of Gramma Rita. As kids we always felt embraced by him, in our eyes a big man with a big heart. When I picture him, I see him at the big table in the country house in the Laurentians, smiling and laughing, and of course eating :-), surrounded by his family, for whom he exuded so much love. Laura, Sara, Noam, and I are also so grateful for everything he did for Peter after his surgeries and hospitalizations these past few years—visiting him, calling him, looking out for him. I will always remember your dad as someone who had so much love for others and who was so well loved in return. My hear goes out to you all. Your cousin, David

Noam Bronstein - 22 days ago

To my cousins, their families, Herbie's friends, and Gia. My heartfelt condolences. It's hard to overstate the effect Uncle Herbie had on my life. He and his already large family were there along with Peter and my grandparents, at Dorval Airport in June 1971, to welcome me and my mother when we first arrived in Canada. I still remember it. Herbie showed me all the love and acceptance that he gave his own children. He showed me by example what it meant to be a man, to be patient and kind. It took me a long time as an adult to learn those things. But I never forgot the "lessons". During a somewhat unsteady childhood, the stability and love Herbie represented to me, was equalled only by my grandparents. I'll always be grateful for that. And for so many memories and great experiences, too many to list but I remember most of them well. Later in life, living farther away, we saw each other less, but the feelings never changed. Life is a mystery, and it made me happy that Herbie had Gia close by him these last years. Such an unforgettable person. Thank you Uncle Herbie for your unconditional love, and for all the great times. And of course, for giving me so many beautiful cousins. Love, Noam ♥️

Dear Brian and Debbie, I wanted to extend my condolences to you and the entire family on the passing of your Dad. Even though I know that he has been sick for a while, losing one’s last parent must be a painful reality to integrate into one’s New reality. Hope that the memories of happier times will help you through the sad days. May you be spared further sorrow. Fondly, Cynthia

Laura Mayo-Bronstein - 22 days ago

To our dearest cousins, We will always remember Uncle Herbie as a warm, affectionate uncle who embodied Gramma's spirit of loving all. He was the example of generosity. We are forever grateful that he took care of our dad with his daily visits to the hospital. He knew that a lunch of smoke meat sandwiches was what was needed :-) He was a devoted brother and I know our dad's world is a little dimmer now that he is gone. He will live on forever in our hearts and minds. Love from all of the Mayo-Bronstein's

Alvin Shear - 23 days ago

My sincere sympathies to the entire Bronstein family; we go back a lifetime; as I knew Herbie as a young boy growing up on Ducharme st. ; enjoying the times, slightly active in sports; where I would climb the stairs to his house to change to our football gear; throughout our adult life we kept in touch every so often; always joking of our connection and somehow that we were distantly related; and although I haven’t seen Herbie in quite some time; I believe the last time was at Yangtze, when a group of old buddies reunited; there are only fond memories of Herbie; I am so sorry for the loss; my thoughts are with you ; Alvin

Steve Kalisher - 23 days ago

I met Herb when I was a young boy (I was the ring bearer at his and Naomi's wedding). And I can remember feeling a certain awe of him. He was very cool (for an adult), he was so sweet, and he seemed to genuinely enjoy everything and everyone around him. His heart was big enough for everyone to have a special place in it. And I wanted to be like him in so many ways. Herb was so relatable and welcoming. He was a large part of my developing such a close relationship with all of my Bronstein cousins and I truly cherish that relationship. Herbie you were a unique man; a big Teddy Bear who made me, and I suspect each and everyone of us, feel loved and special. Thank you for being you. Rest in peace.

Michael Rubinovitch and Family - 23 days ago

To all our adopted Bronstein family through marriage, but who could not be closer than blood family to us, we wish to extend our deepest condolences. Almost a second father to me, I always looked up to him... literally. Larger than life, of imposing stature, Herbie was always one of the smartest guys in the room. I will always remember his amazing stories of his world travels, his wise advise to a kid a little wet behind the ears, his sense of humour, his always stubbornly positive outlook on everything, and his pride in his huge and diverse family. He was a hell of a guy. May he rest in Peace and may the family be spared any further sorrow!

Gerry Rudick - 23 days ago

Yesterday, I saw the name, Herbert Bronstein, in the Gazette, and Googled Paperman, and saw no announcement...... I called David Brownstein, after I researched and saw that this Herbert Bronstein was an older person and a rabbi in the USA....and told David, that it is not the person we knew.....David called me a few minutes ago, to confirm that a Herbert Bronstein had passed away, and indeed, it was the Herbie that we knew , the brother of Peter.......I distinctly remember reading about him and his first wife , Naomi Segal, as they were adopting many orphans from Vietnam, and articles in the newspapers about them and how they were helping to give these kids normal lives.......I had not seen Herbie in probably more than 60 years..... but never forgot him. I am sorry for the loss that his family is feeling, but they should know that it was a blessing to have had this person in their lives....

My last life chapter contact with Herbie was up in the arctic in the 1990's for our fabulous summer fishing trips. Although I have not seen Herbie since then, he was always well represented by his son Brian at our annual " once in a lifetime " fishing trips in the NWT. May he rest in peace!
