Beth was a great student – she brought so much positive energy and a generous dose of constructive chutzpah to her studies. Although she may even have complained “on occasion” and even composed and sang “The Graduate School Blues”, I knew I could always count on Beth. Beth was in our first group of graduate students who travelled to Schefferville/Kawawachikamach when we began our collaboration with the Naskapi Nation. Although she hated the flights on those small planes, Beth's participation was one of the main reasons for the program's success. Beth volunteered to work with the grade 6 class which was the youngest in the study and needed the most support. The teachers were really impressed by her rapport with the kids who loved her and responded so well to her. One of my favorite memories was the day we visited the community’s hunting grounds and the grade 6 kids got Beth to try chopping wood about which she, like all of us from McGill, had no idea as how to do it. The kids couldn't stop laughing, but at the same time were intent on teaching her -- Beth empowered them to feel good about their own strengths, even if somewhat at her own expense. Likewise, Beth empowered the teachers in a workshop that she had prepared on behavioral strategies -- the teachers and school administrators very much appreciated the workshop and implemented many of the strategies that she taught. Also, during our second trip, which coincided with the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the principal asked us if we could teach the kids about Hanukah and its traditions as the kids in the North have very little, is any exposure, to Judaism. So, Beth went from class to class teaching the kids how to light the Chanukah candles and sang the blessings with them.... safe to say, those were the first Chanukah candles lit in Kawawachikamach & the kids loved it!! As Beth neared completion of her Ph.D., I tried to convince her to go into academia as she had a stellar cv, but she wasn’t at all interested as she wanted to work directly with kids – and, as we all know, kids were her passion and she wound up helping so many!! May Beth’s memory and your memories of your times with Beth always be a source of comfort, hope, and inspiration for you and for all of us. Baruch dayan ha’emet.

Julia, Shane, Frances and the entire Randolph family, I am so deeply saddened by the loss of your mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. As so many others have already expressed, she was a shining light, the definition of warmth and love, and I consider myself lucky to have known her. Beth's was a life of perseverance, determination, grit, bravery, strength and most of all resilience. I am in awe of how through everything, she stayed silly and giggly right up to the very end. To watch her with Shane and Julia was to understand what she always knew, that she was born to be a parent. I will miss catching up with her in the corner of my mom's parties and most of all, I will miss listening to her gush about her babies. She was the proudest mama there ever was. Love to you all, and may Beth's memory be a blessing.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Beth lived the definition of a successful life. I will miss her terribly and I am holding her family in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. My love to all of you, Holly

Dear Randolph family, I have just read the many tributes to Beth, including one from my parents and many from our friends at JPPS and Bialik. It is no surprise that so many of us are already missing Beth and feeling such loss. Isn't it remarkable how after so many years, we can still feel the warmth of her smile and embrace emanating from Holland Road ? I moved to London and sadly it's been years, but my heart breaks for Beth and all who were lucky enough to know & love her. Her photo looks exactly as I remember her when we were teens! My deepest sympathies. Laurie

Dear, dear Frances, Andrea and Randy, Mark and Renee, and your beautiful families, Just when we need Beth to guide us through the heartache and anguish ... she’s gone. With her heart so pure, head so rational, and spirit so radiant and loving, she would lead each one of you through your journey of grief. Instead we find ourselves with lifetimes of extraordinary memories of that curly-haired beauty, lessons learned from her strength, examples of how to live life to its fullest. Words will never be enough to express my deep sympathy to Julia and Shane. She loved them fiercely with every of part of her heart. I am lucky to say she was my “bestest” friend and oldest friend. I will hold tight the feeling of loving her and being loved by her - and that will have to carry me forward. I wish each of you courage and strength, peace and love.

Lisa Maislin Takefman - 5 days ago

I started to write this condolence note a hundred times. There was nothing I could write that expressed the heartbreak I am feeling from the loss of my dear, loving friend. Beth brightened up every room she walked into and brightened every life she touched. She impacted my life in ways that only a special friend can. I owe her so much. To Julia, Shane,Frances, Renee, Mark, Andrea and Randy, as you move on from this sad time, and go forth into the future, know that so many have grown from their relationships with your mom, daughter and sister. She has left me with so many memories; from walking to Starbucks in the stroller with Julia from 4 months old to babysitting Shane in his first Halloween. I will miss her forever and will reflect on all the wisdom, warmth, humor and laughter that she and I shared. Rest In Peace my friend, knowing you have left a meaningful footprint in this world.

To the entire Randoph family, Beth was just the most incredibly kind, funny, compassionate, understanding and loyal friend/colleague you can have. I’m going to miss seeing her with Lulu in the halls of John Rennie and having our chat sessions that lasted entire periods. To her children please no now how much your mom was loved and how much she loved you. She was so so proud of her kids. I will her so much. Our hearts are with you during this difficult time. Xox

My dear Julia and Shane....Carry your beloved Mom's indomitable fearlessness and incredible courage in your hearts always. You have had an upbringing of love, nurturing and hope so let that guide you throughout your entire lives. Beth's unparalleled devotion to her precious daughter and son was a thing of beauty to behold. It was on full display at Julia's bat mitzvah. Beth's utter joy and pride watching her kids was so evident that it permeated the room and every single one of us there felt it. Frances.... a first-class Mom and Bubbie(aka Bubba). Beth learned from the best. You have the utmost loyalty and commitment to your family and are a tremendous unifying force. I know you are hurting and grieving beyond belief. I pray that you will draw upon that incredible inner strength of yours to easy the pain. To Andrea and Randy, Mark and Renee, Jerry and Rhoda and Beth's entire beloved family and devoted friends.....my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to you all on the loss of an amazing young woman. May Beth rest in eternal peace now and her gutsy spirit envelop you all with love forever. Affectionately, Dorrie
