Dear Barry and Family, I am so sorry your dear mother-in-law Beverlee has passed. She cherished you, your sons, her family and her many friends. We would often see each en route to Florida. Know Beverlee always took time to talk and catch up. It was such a ritual between us that I found myself automatically looking for her at PET Airport. I will miss our talks. Wishing you and your family no more sorrow...only simchas. Nancy

Dear Barry, Todd and all of Beverlee's family, I had the pleasure of growing up knowing Beverlee from my late Mom Selma and Bev's ORT group and the work they did together when I was in high school. Beverlee was a Leader, a Motivator, a Teacher, a Friend, she loved our Community then and did throughout her lifetime, always raising funds for Federation, JCF and supporting all other organizations that she made the time for. She was respected, admired, adored and appreciated. Over the years while working at the Segal Centre, we'd see each other and she always made time to support our Events, opening nights and fundraisers and take the time to catch up on my family. She adored her children and her grandsons and filled me in on their accomplishments with such pride. I am so lucky I had the pleasure of knowing Beverlee for 50 plus years and sharing the Community that was her second family. May all of you be spared further sorrow and may Beverlee's Legacy and the wonderful memories you shared live in your hearts and minds always. Sincerely, Caryl Gold Young

Beverlee was a mentor, a friend , a confidante and my fashion critic who always made me laugh! She begged me to try to wear high heels with my work suits and so politely reminded me what color lipsticks would go nice with my hair and skin shade. I am lucky to have been able to learn any grow as a Jewish community professional under Bev’s watchful and caring eyes. RIP Beverlee.

Dear Todd and Karen, Pascal , Bell and Freedman families, I can only imagine how great your loss is in the light of the loss of Beverlee to our own Jewish Community , the Montreal Community at large and the larger World Community , and to all who knew her personally. Beverlee meant something special to every person she met and whose life she touched by that exchange . Aside from her intelligence , humour , joie de vivre and knowledge in many fields, she had a way of spotting talent and was able to nurture and channel that talent into productive assets in every facet of her community work. She did it with finesse , respect for a person’s privacy and with infused enthusiasm . There was no one like her . She was a dear friend and confidante. She has left a hole in my heart , and I know more fittingly, in yours . I hope her legacy can bring you all comfort in her memory Fondly Sue Carol

A great leader, mentor, but mostly a devoted and loyal friend. Beverly was fun, inspiring, challenging and always game to go and do! Elegance was her name and certainly shopping was her game. She was someone we loved being with and will miss dearly. She had so much more left to give her family, friends and community.

Beverlee truly was a woman of valour and community leader. She brought Women's Federation and its CJA campaign to unprecedented heights. I was indeed fortunate in 1980 when Beverlee saw potential in me, and introduced me to AJCS and Women's Federation. I treasure my years of knowing her, learning from her about the meaning of "Klal Yisrael" and her helping me expand my horizons. I will miss our periodic talks, even that annual phone call that came around every September. Richard joins me in expressing our sincere condolences to the entire family. Mayme Vineberg

To Beverlee's Family, Beverlee was the first person to embrace me when I arrived in Montreal. Actually, what she really wanted was to solicit me for the Lion of Judah Endowment. However, after that meeting we did become good friends, and Alvin and I cherished that friendship for many years. She was a loving and devoted matriarch of the entire Federation for 50 years. Every Jewish community needs a Beverlee. She will always be 'Montreal's Beverlee'. She belongs to all of us forever. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Emmelle & Alvin Segal

Dear Todd, Barry, ...and Bev’s shining lights, her grandsons…. Richard, Andrew & James , And Family: As a lay leader, I was the fortunate beneficiary of Beverlee’s extraordinary mentorship, leadership, great wisdom and friendship at Federation CJA for many years. To know Beverlee is to love her, and to learn from her - lessons in so many dimensions professionally and personally. She nurtured and “grew" a whole generation of CJA women leaders, who in turn inspired others to “join” the fold… and the rest is history. Her lifelong deep commitment to community, and to family will continue to inspire others who follow. I don’t think any one who knew Beverlee can fully absorb that she is no longer with us…. She was forever young and full of physical, intellectual and spiritual energy….. and she had lots left to do on her “list”. She was epitome of “ESHET CHAYIL”, a woman of valour, replete with grace, elegance, and consummate professionalism and dedication..... and more. My husband David and I, are deeply saddened by Bev's passing (too soon) and extend our heartfelt condolences We hope you can all find a measure of comfort in your treasured memories and inspiration(s) she leaves with all of you.... And in her beautiful legacy that will live on in each of you … and in so many of “Us”.. She will always be “there” to guide you. With Admiration and Love, Sandy and David Martz

To Beverlee’s dear family. When I heard of Beverlee’s passing, I knew and felt this deep loss to our community and personally. Any event relevant to the Jewish community, not just CJA, there was Beverlee, beautifully dressed, confident and always happy to see you. During the Soviet Jewry era, and the Group of 35s, Beverlee was supportive and a cheerleader even before the community recognized our value. I can’t imagine a Jewish community event without her there. May she Rest In Peace and May her memory be of a blessing. With sadness and deepest sympathy to her family. Elaine

My sincere condolences to the family of Beverlee Ashmele. I first met Beverlee when she came to my house one evening when we were holding a Hadassah meeting . I realized then the values committing to The Jewish Community held for me after my family immigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal. May the closeness and shared family memories sustain you at this difficult time. She left her mark on the community which will not be forgotten. My thoughts are with you all. Paula Bultz and Family.

My deep sympathies to the Ashmele family. Beverlee was one of the strongest women I have ever known, never deviating from a lifelong commitment to family, community and to living a purposeful life. Always genuinely interested in how you were doing, how your family was doing, looking for opportunities to lend moral support and encouragement, she truly understood what unconditional friendship and loyalty mean. She realized before most of us that there was no limit to the power that could be unleashed by building a network of women across generations, geography, cultures. Through thick and thin, Beverlee focused on putting her passion to work - that is to give every woman, no matter at what stage in life, the opportunity to shine, to believe in herself, to express her values and to appreciate her respective talents and strengths. Several years ago, she attended my daughter's bat mitzvah, and as I introduced her to my daughter's friends, I saw firsthand how she listened with genuine interest to each of their stories and validated them, making each girl feel she was strong enough to conquer the world. She was a natural leader - always setting others up to excel. We have lost an extraordinary woman – may her strength and her gifts continue to inspire us and may her memory be a blessing for all of us.

From the first day that I started work at Federation CJA in the late 90's Bev was "The One". She was the one who knew the who, what, when, where, why and how of it all. She acted as a mentor to me and so many others along the way and always made time to answer questions, be part of a discussion or lend a helping hand. Even after I left Federation, Bev was always available for a phone call for some guiding words of advice. Her passing leaves a void in our community but a rich legacy for us all to remember.

Carol Levine - 25 days ago

To Beverlee’s Family. We were co-workers at AJCS in the early 70’s at a time when Women’s Federation was in its infancy and where strong leadership and passion, like that of Beverlee would catapult it to its rightful place. I can vividly recall being a guest in her home and marvelling at her elegance, sophistication and good nature. She was a terrific role model. I send my deepest condolences to the family at this sorrowful time. Please know your Mom and grandmother had such an impact on so many. Wishing you strength and good health.

Dear family, I didn’t work with her or get together with her but once a year we connected and she was always understanding and special. To me she was the ideal community leader. I loved talking with her. She represented the best of Montreal Jewish community. Beverley was a wonderful leader, committed to the community, active throughout her life, devoted to family, a shining example for us, and in our chaotic world, a true lady. She listened and understood. She acted . May her memory be a blessing.

Dear Todd, Barry and all Bev’s family, So hard to believe Bev’s gone. She has always been such a vital force. I’ve known her since I was a little girl at Camp Hiawatha. She was the one who was always full of spirit and enthusiasm. Years later, working with her at Federation to try and find ways to explain community needs and support for new donors... she was creative, thoughtful, considerate and so hard working. But she made the work fun instead of arduous. How she loved to entertain and bring her friends together. Her dinner and lunch parties at Polo were occasions none of us will forget. There was always a little thought out surprise for each guest. Her emails dealt with information about the issues in the world that concern us. Todd, it is comforting to know that you were there for your Mom every night, caring for her in her final days. Morris and I send you and the family our heartfelt sympathy. Lillian

Barry and the entire family, Our most sincere sympathies. Beverlee was a true matriarch, not only for her family but for all of us in the Jewish community. There is great sadness in her passing, but we are certain that she will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. My condolences to the Ashmele family. Never knew Beverley by that name, So when I was told of the passing of Ashmele it rang a bell, not Beverlee’s until I saw her Photo. I first met Beverley in grade 7 at Iona Ave school. That was a fun year. Once again, my sympathies.

Dear All: When I heard the sad news the first thing I wanted to do was to speak to my mother, Kappy, and talk about Beverlee. I remember Beverlee from my young leadership days in Montreal 45 years ago. My mother went even further back and always spoke so fondly of her. Having just lost Kappy in June, I can’t talk to her and reminisce so I send my own condolences and Kappy’s by proxy. Our thoughts are with you and we wish you peace and long life.

Dear Family At age 31,after living in several cities with my family I moved back to Mtl, I became involved in Women's division. Beverley became my Mentor. I remember the grace & elegance of Beverley. She taught me to think out of box & to organize. She was devoted to fundraise for those less fortunate in Mtl & Israel. Patience to work with so many women volunteers. Beverley would always take the time to write such beautiful congratulation & condolence notes. She will be missed. May the wonderful memories comfort you during this difficult time. Dear family of Beverlee, With a heavy heart I send my condolences to you on the loss of your matriarch. Bev was an extraordinary woman and highly respected by the Montreal community and beyond. She led by example and taught us to value philanthropy in the best sense of the word. As a professional, she reached for the moon and influenced each of her volunteer leaders to maximize their potential. I will forever treasure the friendship I developed with Bev. Her opinion counted on matters large and small. Her wisdom and insight will always guide my thinking. Above all, she cherished the moments she spent with you, her family. May you find strength in each other and in the memories of special times you shared. Please know that Paul and I are thinking of you at this time. Most sincerely, Jewel

I was shocked to find out this sad sad news. Beverlee was a very special lady. When I think of her I see her in high heels, fabulous jewellery, always dressed so well and a smile that made those around her feel so great. Beverlee was so energetic , was a very upbeat person who always spoke good of everyone. She loved her family dearly and her Richard, Andrew and James were her highlights. She spoke often of their Friday night dinners together, she spoke of her dear son Todd and Karen and loved to tell me of the fabulous trips they took together. She was lucky to have a wonderful son-in-law in Barry and they had an among relationship. Her precious daughter of blessed memory Felice and her had a special bond. So many memories , she will be missed by her wonderful family and all the many people who were close to her and loved her and especially the Jewish community to which she dedicated much of her life. I feel grateful to have known her and I know how much she will be missed. Be strong for each other.....covid has made it so difficult to be together, but you all have wonderful memories to cherish. We will always remember Beverlee. Sending hugs... Linda,Lauren ,Jennifer and Jamie Gewurz.

To Todd and Karen, Barry, and the rest of Beverlee's family, I am shocked and terribly saddened to read of Beverlee Ashmele's, z'l, passing. Just saw her on Zoom meetings this past week, and she seemed to be her usual self. Beverlee and I first met at AJCS, all those years ago and through the years saw each other at the Montefiore Club and at social events. She was a stylish lady with a particular flair, and she knew how to wear high heels - not a common feat. Witty and intelligent in conversation. She certainly went through sad trials in her life, but was the epitome of putting on a bright lipstick, a great pair of shoes, a smile that shone, and moving forward in life. Full of energy at Campaign. Still so hard to believe that she is gone. May the many good memories you have of her, and the knowledge that she really contributed to this world, comfort you during these difficult days. May you and your family be spared any further sorrow. Rachel

Dear Barry, Todd and family, It is with great sadness that I write this condolence. Bev and I worked together for many years. Community was Beverlee’s second family and she gave it her all. She was an inspiration to so many, a dynamic fundraiser, and a woman with her own special style. It is truly an end of an era. She will be greatly missed, and leaves a lasting legacy. May her memory be for a blessing.

My heartfelt condolences to her family.

To Bev's Family... I was so saddened to hear of Bev's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Bev for over 35 years - 35 CJA campaigns. She demonstrated such a depth of knowledge and loving for our community. There was no donor, small or large, that she would miss the opportunity to steward. I will always remember her fondly for her shoes (how did she walk in those shoes?) and the best Hamantaschen I have ever tasted. BDH.

Dear Todd & Karen, Barry, Richard, Andrew, James, It is with a heavy heart I find myself writing to express my most sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. My aunt Bev was many things smart and funny, direct, kind and generous but perhaps most of all energetic and courageous. She faced many personal hardships in her lifetime yet always found the strength to keep moving forward and to never give up or rest easy. She made it her life's work to give and do for others in order to help raise up those in need both in Canada and in the land of Israel. Although this work can often prove thankless or take a back seat to those many generous donations and benefactors, she never tired of the thousands upon thousands of phone calls and emails and fund raising events, and brought her tremendous energy and enthusiasm to every event and campaign as if it were her first. She related to both the affluent donors and to those less financially able, yet still wishing to make a contribution and to help those in need, and treated them all as equals. Her energy during campaign was endless and tireless almost, as if a half off sale had been declared at her home(s) away from home Nieman's & Saks. She brought that very same energy and enthusiasm to everything she did, I would often marvel upon driving by her house at 12 or 1 in the morning to find the lights on and knowing she was home still awake, working or planning out her schedule and the work to be done. For the past several years up until the lockdown took effect, I was very fortunate to be in her company on many occasions and always found her to be bright, thoughtful, insightful and extremely proud of her family. She had a drive that was only matched by her zest for life. Now that her courageous battle has ended I hope and pray she has found the eternal peace she so very much deserves. Although I will miss her terribly my memories of her are filled with all the fun and happy times we spent together. I hope that all the memories made by all of you can bring some comfort to you at this sad time and will once again bring a smile to your faces. I know in my heart that's what Beverlee would want for us all.

To Beverlee's family. I knew Beverlee from working at Ometz and connecting on many common community fronts. I retired before Beverlee and I know she was still at it in the late summer or fall as I received my annual Pre Super Sunday call from her. Beverlee never failed to mention her relationship with my late mother Ruth. It was another connection that endeared her to me. She belied her age physically and spiritually. I admired her and will miss her. My deepest sympathy to the family. Nancy Engels
