Dear Faye, Our entire family are saddened to hear about Herbie's passing. He was the first really close friend I made here at Hunters Run 10 years ago. He was always kind, thoughtful and protective of me since I was here most of the season by myself. He would go out of his way on many holiday's to make sure I wasn't alone and I can never express how wonderful that made me feel. He especially took a liking to my son Peter and Herbie was always the first person he asked about when we spoke, and the first person he wanted to play with when he visited. He will always be in out thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself and God bless. Sharon, Pete, Peter and the whole family

Dear Schnapp Family, when I saw the name Herby Schnapp, I wondered to myself if this was the same cool guy who played Elvis, at Monklands talent show, probably i 1957. He came on stage wearing a black leather jacket, and had all the moves of the King. When I read Larry Sazant's message, It confirmed my belief. Over 60 years ago. May the family be spared any future sorrows.

Larry Sazant - 21 days ago

By chance I saw the announcement of Herby’s Passing and it struck me immediately and jogged my memory To another era. A somewhat brash flamboyant guy at Monklands High. He made some attempts to act like Elvis Presley and even sang at our annual talent show! Was a consummate showman . I knew and met his Dad and Mom Who asked me to give him some Bar Mitzvah lessons. What an experience! Laughed more than learned . Had to love this guy and even though I have not seen him in over 50 years his memory is etched in my brain and I am very saddened to hear this news but I celebrate his fun and adventurous personalty. My sympathy to David and his wife Faye and the family Larry Sazant

To the Schnapps family, I have not thought of Herby for decades, but when I read this sad news, it brought me back to grade 5 & 6 at Van Horne school. Her ice and I sat together with our desks touching. Even as a kid, he was warm and funny and I remember that one day, on a dare, he drank from the ink bottle which fit into the hole in the corner of our desks....wow, so very long ago. Reading the notes of condolence, I gather that Herby remained the warm, funny, caring person he was when he was 12 years old. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Fay, Carole and I are saddened by the news of Herby's passing. There are very few people that I have ever met that were kinder and more considerate than Herby. While he was able to touch every corner of life, he never lost sight of what it means to be a decent, caring and giving human being. There is much to say of such a person, as well as his love for the state of Israel and its military. Courage and strength exemplified what Herby was. May his soul rest in peace.

to his family, i had not seen Herbie since our 30's playing hockey at the Bonaventure rink. however, i never forgot him. he was a character, but a warm guy, who did his thing. his thing then, i remember so clearly, was to finish playing, put on his bikini shorts and his cowboy boots. this scene along with his skinny legs was so funny and made me laugh, but in a good way. he had character. i liked that. he certainly was his own person. he left many friends with wonderful memories and may his memory bring you comfort. may he rest in peace.

Oh Fay, I just cannot believe this. Wasn't it yesterday that he gave me his beautiful golf clubs and bright yellow golf bag? I have all the 'Hunters Run Herby Schnapp' engraved golf covers, so I will be thinking of Herby constantly, when golf season begins soon. He gave me his clubs out of respect for my late father, and I always appreciated his stories about playing with my Dad and uncle, when he and David first joined Pinegrove. When I joined Chevra Shaas fifteen years ago, I was shocked to find Herby as a regular member of the minyan. He had so many levels to him, physical and spiritual, as he brought character (with a touch of eccentricity) and genuine warmth to our community. As Gabbai, I was greatly privileged, after the many 'aliyah's that he would get, to recite the "mishebeirach' bracha for Herby and for all the names in his 'notebook' for the people that he cared about. Now, Herby will receive his final 'aliyah' - and, let me tell you, it is going to be a great one, and Heaven will never be the same. Your loss is a great loss, Fay. May Hashem comfort you, amongst all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Baruch Dayan haEmet Michael and Maggy Rubin
