How I met David. Picture this... A big handsome guy walks out of the gym looks at me in the pool smiles and says “Hi Honey”. I say “Hi”. Very brief pause ...”Are you my wife ?” The first of many laughs. David was the life of the party, a brilliant Kibitzer. I was lucky enough to see the true Mensch that he was. He was inclusive, a picky eater who loved his kasha, warm and welcoming. He was very kind to me. I could see how much he adored and loved Sandy. He was very aware of his good fortune to have such a steady ,beautiful inside and out, perfect partner. To see him with Ivy was a joy. Although I only met David recently I will miss him very much.
Philip Fainer - 19 days ago
Dear Hendler family, Though not a close friend of David's, I knew him for most of my life. We went to elementary and high school together and in later years we used to meet up at the Beth Ora Synagogue on the high holidays. His smiling face and quick wit were constants throughout his life. I will never forget his amiable disposition and warm greeting every time we ran into each-other. His infectious smile will be sorely missed. He was a blessing to all of us who were fortunate to have known him.

Larry and Alma Herman - 21 days ago
Dear Sandy, Matthew and Zachary, David was a dear and close friend of mine starting in our late teens, continuing through our 20's and 30's. As often happens, life circumstances drew us apart, but not our deep care for each other. When my Dad died in 2015, David was there for my family. Although we hadn't stayed in touch for some time, he reached out to my then 90 year old mother and offered to help her with anything, knowing that her children did not live in Montreal. David's sudden passing reminds Alma and I of how ephemeral life can be, and we feel remiss in our not having made the effort to remain closer. May David's memory be a blessing. Larry and Alma Herman

David is part of my childhood memories of our St. Laurent ‘enclave’. I particularly remember his role as ‘bouncer’ at Beth Ora as he dutifully kept the doors guarded during services to keep the noisemakers out in the hall. It’s funny how we keep certain memories with us over the decades; a strong one being his warm and smiling greeting to my mother (the other Freda) as he passed our seats during the high holidays. My mom would beam at his acknowledgment of her. This small act of kindness remains in my heart, as strange and insignificant as it may sound. May he Rest In Peace.

My heart goes out to you Sandy and to the Hendler family on the untimely passing of your beloved David. I met David when I was in my 20’s and I have many fond memories of him and of fun times we spent together. We lost sight of each other for many years but it was so nice to reconnect years ago in Ste Agathe, and to see David as your loving devoted husband. David was unique and unforgettable. The mention of his name always has and will continue to put a smile on my face. I hope your memories of him will help give you strength at this most difficult time, please accept my deep condolences.

To David’s family. I am so sad and shocked to hear of David’s passing. My history with David goes back to when we were in our 20’s. He had the craziest sense of humour.... sometimes bold and daring, but he knew how to make others laugh. When I think back to those days, I recall many funny stories. I hope that fond memories of him help the family during this sad time. Rest In Peace David.

Condolensnses from the Braiter family in Toronto. David's passing caught us all by surprise.I have very fond memories of David as the Braiter and Hendler families spent much time together when we cousins were young. I remember David coming by my house and letting me drive his corvette when I was only 15. David was my go to person whenever I wanted to get my hands on tickets to see a rock concert at the Forum. We also spent time together at Braiter Bros when I worked there summer’s. As many have mentioned, he had a good heart, and a sense of humour that made one chuckle, or not. He spoke his mind, and there was no doubt you knew how he stood. He will be missed.

Assisted with the Boy Scouts in Chomedey, in the case of myself and my brothers getting to see the Habs at a practice or two at the old Montreal Forum, having us at his country house, involved with the Braiter reunions, etc. He will be missed.

Dearest Sandy, Erica, Jill and Caroline, Matt and Zachery, I am deeply saddened at David’s passing. What comes to mind is how when we would have dinner together, David would stand up ready to leave. It didn’t matter that the rest of us were ready for dessert, David was done. This is what I thought of this morning when I got the unexpected call. Last night I was sending David his much loved Mandel bread but David didn’t wait for the delivery this morning. David was ready to go and David lived life on his terms. He loved his Sandy and his family and friends. What you saw is what you got. David was true to himself and genuine to those around him. O hope you will continue to support one another and be comforted with the Togo’s times you shared . Rest peacefully now . Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet. Much Love , Arlene
