Dear Sharon, Dena and were sorry to hear about Ben's passing. It was always a pleasure working with him when when we were on the board together. What I most enjoyed was our quick Yiddish banter when we met in the corridor, elevator and garage. He had a great sense of humour and was a true mensch. He will be missed by all.

Dear Sharon and family. I am so sad to hear about Ben. I know he adored his family so much. We spent so many years at Rockland shopping center having lunch that I cannot even count. He always spoke of his daughters in two countries and how he loved those grandkids. He told of stories of him basking in the frigid arena watching his grandkids play hockey. We would laugh together at the notion of him sitting on a polar blanket! There is not enough room to list all our soulful talks, only to say I will miss my lunch buddy! I know that he is watching all of you with pride and love.

Having just returned from Benny’s funeral, I am thinking of his parents, Auntie Rosie and Uncle Abie, They loved him so much, and would have been so proud of him as they read through these heartfelt tributes. Renee and Lori, no doubt you are proud of your Dad and grateful for the secure warm and nurturing upbringing he and your Mom provided for you. When Cantor Zelermeyer sang “Oyfen Propichick” at the funeral, I know that must have been the lullaby Auntie Rosie sang to him when he was a baby. I was moved to tears. Benny’s passing is a very big loss for me. I will cherish the vivid memories of our shared childhood.

Cheryl, Tammy & Lisa Fried - 11 days ago

Dear Sharron, Renee & Lori and families, We are so sorry for your loss. Ben was an amazing man with a million dollar smile and we mourn his passing. Growing up directly across the street from you, when Major street had a dead end, my sisters and I remember Ben teaching Renee and Lori how to ride a bike there, chasing after his girls and cheering for them, and scooping them up in his arms if they fell. Ben would regularly offer us a lift to school when he was taking Renee and Lori when they were young, and we would happily jump into the car (even though school was a five minute walk for us). Tammy and Lisa remember babysitting for the girls and there was always ice cream in the freezer. When you moved from St. Laurent, the Fried family looked forward to catching up with all of you on the high holidays at Beth Ora, up in the balcony. Ben will be missed so much. Love, the Fried girls

To the Gersovitz family and friends. We are so very sorry for your loss. I will never forget being in the Halifax airport with my infant (Alex now 16) and my flight to Montreal was delayed by hours. I thank my lucky stars that the Gersovitz' were visiting Renee, Jon and their Alex, and were also on their way home. They immediately took care of me, adopted me, someone they barely knew. Sharon and the kids. Before my mom (Ruth Holtzman) died a few years earlier, she made me promise to always stay in touch with those she loved and felt close to her heart when she died. You mother Nellie and her were close friends since childhood and she always loved you and Ben so very much. After she died each week I called you and I kept her promise then and I will now again to keep calling each week to make sure you are ok. We will all miss Ben. Over the past years, my conversations with him about his next car and the industry was so enjoyable and I am glad that I was able to bring that happiness not just to him but to you as well. Always remember he will live on through you and his children and grandchildren and he will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and Prayers are with all of you, now and forever! Diane and Stephen

Dear Sharon and family, it is with extreme sadness that I have heard about this tragedy. It has been a long time since we have seen each other but nevertheless, I have been thinking about you and Benny. I still remember that fateful double date with Stan and both of you when we were still young and hopeful. We rode in Benny's truck, all 3 of us squeezed in the front seat. I will never forget that first date and I wish I could be with you now. Perhaps one day we may still reconnect. all I can say is bon courage and keep well during these very difficult times.

Dearest Sharron, Renee, Laurie & Family... our earliest Ben memories are of him dribbling the ball down the court at BBHS, students cheering him on & us cheerleaders jumping up & down yelling Go Ben Go! He was his own cheerleader these past few years, together with his loved ones, a warrior actually. His determination to fight the fight was what he was made of. He surrounds you now with all with his love and know that he’s your Angel and protector. May you know no more sorrow.

Baby Benny, as he was known in our house, was my cousin. He was always friendly and kind to my parents, though they were much older, and to me, though I was much younger. People use the word mensch a lot, but Ben was the real thing. Just a lovely guy with a great sense of humour. I will miss him very much.
