To the Zittrer family. My sincere condolences on Sheila’s passing. So many wonderful and most deserving tributes have been written about her, as she touched so many lives, but I must add mine. I first met Sheila in August 1981, when we opened the Community Geriatric Assessment Unit, at the Jewish General Hospital. We were, at the outset, on a two year grant, funded by the Council On Aging, AJCS. And the rest is history. Sheila was very involved, and I quickly became in awe of her capabilities, and valued her sincerity, warmth and wisdom. Whenever we met, over the years, those feelings reemerged tenfold. Truly a woman of valour. She will be missed by a multitude. Marlene Levine

Ron Prehogan - 11 days ago

Dear Bobby, Randy and family. Your mother was one of those rare people who always made you feel better whenever you saw her. As interesting, accomplished and funny as she was, she started every conversation wanting to know about me even though she already knew seemingly everything about what was going on in my life from my mother. Every conversation would also include a suggestion or some piece of wisdom for me to take away. That was her brand of love - always wanting to help, always wanting to share, always wanting to put a smile on your face and always succeeding in all of the above. Hers was a life as well lived as anyone I have ever known. May her memory always be a blessing for you all.

To Sheila' Family: As a young 20-something, there were a few women who guided me to becoming the committed women I was to all things Jewish in the Montreal community. Sheila was one of them. To me, she was gentle but strong, committed to her ideals and had a passion for what was right. Most of all she supported those of those with new ideas. I know, even as a volunteer at AJCS and then Soviet Jewry that with the leadership of Sheila, we could succeed at anything we tried. Elaine Dubow harris

Mark Bercuvitz - 11 days ago

Dear Bobby and family, I met dear Sheila sixty six years ago this month. I had just joined the fledgling firm of Zittrer, Siblin and started work before my college year ended. I remember the day. There was an office that can best be described as miniscule in the Gordon Brown building. In an area of aboutfive feet by ten feet Sheila and I sat side by side. She typed financial statements and I worked on files. As I recall she would type fourteen copies using carbon paper (do you remember what that was?) and couldn't make a mistake. If she did she would have to start all over. Whenever we would meet over the years, which would be often, we would chuckle with my greeting: "Sheila, they had the best bullpen anyone ever had". As so many did I had frequent contact with her through work in our Jewish Community as well as cultural events. She was everything exceptional as you well know. What a brilliant, capable, warm class act. I loved her. Judy and I send our warmest condolences. May her memory be a blessing. A life well lived. Mark and Judy Bercuvitz

Robert Presser - 12 days ago

Dear Robert and Family, On behalf of my parents, Rhoda and Steve, and I, we offer our sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I have very fond memories of Sheila and Jack in my parent's house and later, country houses, as part of a wide circle of friends who enjoyed decades of good times together. Jack, and George Shuster, taught me how to cross-country ski. I recall a story when my parents were dining at their house and Jack told my father to go down to the wine cellar and "pick what he wanted" not realizing that Steve knows his stuff. I believe he came up with two prize bottles and a wide grin on his face, and Sheila calmed Jack down to just enjoy the moment. An era is ending as all of these great characters pass on, and I think that Sheila should be celebrated for what she achieved, and what she meant to casual hangers-on like us kids who could only appreciate a sliver of what couples like Sheila and Jack had to offer.

Harvey Sigman - 12 days ago

Dear Robert and family. Sheila was one of those unique individuals who was able to combine wisdom empathy and humility. When Sheila spoke, everyone listened. Dear Robert and Family Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the loss of your precious mother. I am the daughter of Jean Dalfen who was a first cousin of your grandmother Sara Siblin. These two incredible women were very close friends who worked tirelessly through the Sara B Stein Unit to support the construction and establishment of the original Jewish Hospital of Hope. Your grandmother's mother Riva Rubin was legendary in the family as the go-to person for "aytzahs" in all manner of life's trials and tribulations. Hence, it is no wonder that with these antecedents, your mother became such a wise and respected pillar of the Jewish Community. May all the memories that you have accumulated of your mother throughout the years be forever a blessing to you and your family. Sincerely, Doris Dalfen
