Dear Ella, Debbie and the entire Ehrmann family. When I was told of Ernest’s passing my heart skipped a beat. I’m so sad. To me Ernest was the epitome of a human being who is truly a holy man. I sat with him in the front of the bus on many MOL trips and was in awe of his courage, his resilience and his hope for a better world. In recounting his story of survival from one experience to another, he spoke about luck and faith. He was humble, quiet but filled with the urgency to teach the teens the stories that they should impart to others-the meaning of the words Never Again. The importance of those words were for him a mantra. He left a legacy not only for his children but for hundreds of others. He was a kind and gentle soul. Baruch Dayan Haemet. May his memory be a blessing to you always. They will be for me. Dale

Dear Ella, Debbie and family, My deepest condolences on the passing of Ernest. My three children and I are forever grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the MOL with Ernest (and Ella). We, along with countless number of MOL participants, have been left with an indelible mark on our hearts and mourn his loss with you. I will always remember walking together beside the train tracks from Auschwitz to Birkenau, where he said to me “ if these train tracks could talk… “ before breaking off the sentence. He later shared with us that it was on those tracks where he last saw his mother and siblings, He had such remarkable strength and determination to return year after year, to ensure the preservation of their memories and of all those who perished. He profoundly affected a generation of adults and teenagers, instilling a sense of purpose to carry on his legacy. Ernest’s example gave these young adults today the conviction to declare that “Never Again is Now!” He was a good friend to my parents and beloved by all who knew him. BDE

תהא נשמתו צרורה בצרור החיים Who can ever forget Ernest and his harrowing experience in one of the most horrible concentration Camps. I remember him very well during our trip of March of the Living where he explained the details vividly surviving the most notoriously horrible extermination camps in human history. His life held on only once to a shoestring glimmer of hope in being the only one who can fix and understand how to repair the Commandant's Mercedes which was making a noise noyone could figure out. Only Ernst understood and this saved his life since the Commandant wanted him alive to fix his car seeing his ability and experience. All from Hashem. I feel very sadenned to read his orbituary and pray that Gad Eden will open wide its doors for him. For a human being to suffer such horrors in inconceivable. He actually opened up talking about his experience which most will keep repressed for decades. Ernst, you are the embodiment if not symbol of resilient Judaism. My warmest, saddest condoleances to his entire family. Ernst was a man who did not ask nor question his lot in life. He accepted it with love and never ever asked why. Farewell my great and wonderful Friend. I have never met a man like you! Nor do I think I ever will.

To the Ehrmann Family, It is truly with a heavy heart that I write this message to you. I had the honour of spending a great amount of time with Ernest and Ella on several March of the Living trips. He was one of the pillars of the MOL; there are thousands of students that were blessed by his presence and his participation. The courage it took for both he and Ella to go back to Poland year after year is unimaginable. His rendition in the barrack at Birkenau where he spent his first night sharing the horrific experience he endured was so vivid; it is still ringing in my ears. I recall the faces of the 300 plus people packed in that barrack that were mesmerized; you could hear a pin drop. Ernest's dedication to educating the youth of what the world turned into in the 1930's and what it could easily turn back into was a sacred trust for him. There was not a participant of the MOL that did not flock to Ernest and Ella for comfort and hugs. He helped memorialize the six million to the next generation. His adherence to Jewish study, values and tradition is an example to all. We have lost a fine and exceptional man. Baruch Dayan Emeth, With a tear in my eye, Mark
