Dear George, I was very moved hearing about your mother on Friday. She truly was a unique individual who filled and inspired the lives of those who came to know her. I only regret I was not one of those. You and your family were very fortunate to have her in your life.

Dear Elyse, George and the Pollack-Young families. I was saddened to hear of Glady’s passing this week. I worked side by side with her for over five years at Reader’s Digest where she became a close colleague as well as a person whom I considered a friend, despite the generation gap. She had a warm and familiar way that instantly disarmed those around her, making it easy to open up and share stories. Gladys was also an exceptional person considering how much she accomplished in her younger years and how intellectually curious and active she remained in her later years. She was truly someone to admire, a mentor, a strong woman, and I’m lucky to have known her. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Dear Pollack Family, My deepest condolences. I am extremely fortunate to have worked closely with Gladys in my time as a Researcher Associate at Reader's Digest. She was incredible, always totally dedicated to her work, her family, and to all of her colleagues and friends. She genuinely cared about everyone around her and made sure she was always doing something to help someone else, never putting herself first. She changed everyone she came across for the better, and in this way, she will live on.

To George, Robin, David and families, My deepest condolences on the loss of your mom, mother-in-law and grandmother. I met Gladys when my daughter Dalia began after school ballet classes with Robin in 1963, beginning a friendship which grew over many decades. Dalia, who sends her sympathies to the families as well, reminded me that Gladys would willingly help her with her homework many times through the years that she was friends with Robin. Even after her own children were grown, Gladys would continue giving selflessly by cooking dinners for her extended family and assisting her grandchildren with their university courses. Gladys was a close caring friend and we shared many family simchas and times together. For the last few years I was fortunate to have Gladys live across the street from me which enabled us to visit with each other more often. She was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. Sincerely, Dora Gesser

I met Gladys at the aqua fitness class given in our apartment's pool. All four members and the instructor were residents of 4555 Bonavista. The classes went on for four years during which we learned a lot about each other and became very close. Gladys impressed us all with her strength of character and her intelligence. She loved her children and grandchildren and we were kept up to date about all their achievements. May her memory be a blessing to you all.

Dear Pollack Family, I am very sorry to read that we have lost Gladys. Gladys and I met at the program for seniors at McGill; we did Dickens together, then Sherlock Holmes, then she read all of Trollope. We went to the Dickens Fellowship together and talked about Dickens and anti-Semitism, took the bus back and forth. We spoke on the phone regularly; sharing about my daughter and your family. Gladys was a very special friend. I will miss her greatly.

I met Gladys many years ago when we were both involved in Home and School. She was a lovely person and a first class intellect. I didn't see her often, but whenever I did, she taught me something I hadn't known - a wonderful role model. May her memory serve as a source of comfort to the family, and an inspiration.
