I was sorry to hear about the loss of Avrum Dunsky. I took the Electricity and Magnetism course at Vanier, many, many years ago. I considered myself lucky to have him as a teacher that summer (having heard wonderful things about him), and though the material was challenging, he always made the class fun and engaging. He also took the time, outside of class, to try to get me to understand the “right hand rule”, which I couldn’t seem to grasp. He was a beloved, dedicated, and well-respected teacher. My sincere condolences to the Dunsky family. May his memory be a blessing.

With Sympathy, I have been checking this site regularly because my mother recently passed away so as I am checking for messages I noticed Avrum Dunsky died. I am 60 now but I went to Vanier and remember an Avrum Dunsky a physics teacher, who was very very patient with me and really tried to teach me electricity but I failed his class and then I think he tried even harder next time and I passed. Well that got me into university PT program. I have been going to the Segal centre almost weekly with my mother and I should have kept my eyes open for him and I would have thanked him. With Sympathy to the family of a very patient teacher.

Avrum was a large presence in the Physics Department. From his "physics doorbell" to novel ways of demonstrating physics principles, he was always thinking outside of the box. Thousands of students who never even had Avrum as a teacher have reason to be grateful to him. He was the architect (along with Dave Smith) of the Physics Arcade, a set of Physics puzzles and hands-on gadgets, mounted permanently along the 4th floor corridor walls. A steady stream of students were drawn to these elegant demonstrations of Physics in action. Thank you Avrum!

As you know, Ruth, Avreymel was a very special cousin for me. One of my first memories was his Bar Mitzvah! First cousin to my mother but younger, he was able with love to be supportive of me when my father died when I was a young child, fulfilling the gap in ages between my parent's generation and myself - it was only Avreymel who could teach me how to ride a bike! My late sister Seema and I loved him so dearly. He was always there and like his father a calming and wise influence in the family. I remember how thrilled we were when you married and I wish you, Phillip, Libby and the whole family only happy memories of a very special person. The phrase Zichron L'Brachah is especially apt when thinking of Avreymel - his memory is a blessing! With much love, David De Zwirek Karmiel, Israel
