In the middle sixties I took a course from Dr Frank. He gave an interesting course and made one interested in physics. I subsequently won the Lieutenant-Governor's medal in mathematics and physics due in part to his encouragement. Je voudrais exprimer mes sympathies sinceres a sa femme et a toute sa famille.

Dearest Donnie and family. I am paralyzed with shock on the sudden death of my dear cousin Barry. Loving husband, father and grandfather. I have tried to compose a post for all this time, but where to begin to express the loss of a kind, generous, brilliant and witty man. From piggy backs and playing the piano to Maureen and I when we were young(te te ta Rondo a la Turka) , him giving me his stamp collection when I was 10, a pillar of strength to me when my father passed, kind and generous to my late sister Maureen and to Kelly when she was moving to Guelph. If you were ever in need, Barry would be there giving his love and strength. I only wanted Barry to officiate at my father’s unveiling. Barry was our protector on Esplanade St when the gang started chasing us when visiting Bubby and Zaidie. Words cannot express how sorry i am for your sudden loss. May you find comfort in the many wonderful memories that you have of your trips to Israel and B.C. He was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren and his young bride. I remember when he first brought you to meet the family and your beautiful long hair. May you know no more sorrow . Love you all very much, Roberta

Dear Donnie & Family: I was so shocked to hear of Barry's passing. I guess I didn't know that he was sick & this took me by surprise. I still remember the fun times. oh so many years ago, when because I loved the way Barry played piano, I decided to take lessons as well. However, I never did play anywhere near like he did, as I hated to practice. Of course that was my loss. Just know that I'm thinking of you all & sending lots of love.

Dear Donnie and the entire family, Our very deepest sympathies on the passing of Barry. I remember when you spoke of falling in love with Barry as he serenaded you on the piano. Barry was a constant and shining presence at Dorshei Emet, a presence whose absence will be acutely felt by all. May you find comfort in the memories you share, and may you be spared further sorrow. Recently I met Barry at a residence where I live. He was helping a resident move in. He helped bring her belongings from her former residence to a new one. I recalled meeting Barry in years gone by. He was generous and extended a helping hand to all. I was a Physics teacher and he offered help to me organize my Physics courses. He was bright, articulate and compassionate.I want to extend my sympathy to his family and friends

Dear Donnie and Family, My partner Barry Nadel and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your husband Barry Frank. We will miss him greatly, as he would always give us a great big hug, when he met us at Dorshei Emet. He loved to talk to my partner Barry in Hebrew and Yiddish, and my partner Barry enjoyed practicing these languages of his childhood with your Barry. Although I am not Jewish, Barry always made me feel welcome and accepted in the synagogue. Barry also had a wonderful sense of humour and we loved his reading of the book of Esther during Purim, as he had a twinkle in his eye, when he said the name of Haman ... May the good memories you have of Barry console and comfort you during this time of mourning. Vivian Squire and Barry Nadel

Cheuk and Barry met when they were graduate students at UBC. They shared an office and a thesis supervisor, Professor Robert Barrie whom they both greatly admired. When we arrived in Quebec, Barry and Donnie were the only people we knew. Barry and Donnie showed their legendary generosity in helping us to settle in and there began a wonderful friendship. Cheuk and Barry shared a love of physics and were good friends for over fifty years. Barry was always trying to get Cheuk to try his hand at ping pong, a pass time that Barry adopted in his later years and really enjoyed. Luckily, Donnie and I get along pretty well too and we have had many wonderful times together over the years. We are brokenhearted at the loss of our wonderful friend, Barry Frank, and are truly sorry that we have not been in town to attend the funeral. Our most sincere condolences go to Donnie, Ilana, Dina and all the family.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the whole Frank family on Barry's passing. Our families have know each other for over 50 years. My Mother and Polly were always on the phone or together to with each other. We were so close we had to move next door. Willie sold me my 1st insurance policy when I was 16, Barry was 10 years older than me so we really didn't know each other that well. But the service today gave me wonderful insight in who he was. which didn't surprise me, because I knew his parents very well and they were wonderful people and I always enjoyed my conversations with both of them. They were both very sweet. Again my deepest condolences.

Dear Donny, Ilana, Tal, Eyal, Erez and all the rest of the family, I was shocked and so, so saddened to learn of Barry’s death. Barry was full of knowledge yet unassuming, a generous, kind soul with a glint of mischief and a twinkle in his eye. He was a scholar and definitely the most huggable man in the shul. I’ll never forget how he encouraged me to take his university Physics course even though my last math class was in Grade 10 , I had none of the the Calculus prerequisites and my last science course was several decades earlier—why let details get in the way of an opportunity for learning? During that same Physics course, Barry noticed a young Chinese student hadn’t been handing in his assignments even though his in-class work was excellent. Barry suspected that there was a communications problem and that the boy wasn’t understanding the way the assignments were being posted on the university’s website. He asked me to mentor the young student. Of course Barry was right. That young boy had never been away from home before crossing the globe alone a month before, and while his science skills were excellent, his grasp of English and the workings of our society and the university was much more tenuous. That student thanked me for being his first friend in. Canada. I would never have known that he needed a friend were it not for Barry’s sensitivity. Barry will be greatly missed by so many people. My deepest condolences to you all.

We're sure gonna miss you, Mr. B.! Laura Yaros & Beth Blackmore

Barry was a gentle soul. He was the tallest of the cousins and I started life looking up to him and that continued throughout my life. In the early years we watched him study and play piano as we visited the Frank house daily in Outremont. He would always greet you with a gentle laugh and smile. He was there for you- someone to call on before a physics exam or when information was needed on family genealogy. Barry always seemed so happy reading Torah. He was inspiring in life and will continue to inspire forever. We love you Barry. Our deepest Condolences to the family. Cousins Linda and Lawrence Zimmering ( in Vancouver)

Sincere condolences to Donnie and the entire family. Professor Barry Frank was my Physics Professor at Concordia University 1970-71. His course was in Electromagnetic Propagation. He left an everlasting impression with me in my life and work that I chose. I still remember that he gave his students a chose either to write the final exam or to give a presentation. I chose the latter one and gave a presentation on different antennas used in solid state communications. He was very impressed and showed his appreciation by giving me an "A" for my final mark. Barry, you will never be forgotten!! For the family, you should know no more sorrow. Gus Gross BScPhysics, Eng.

Dear Donny, Ilana and Dina. We were the first generation to crawl on the floors of 18 Cleve Rd. From day one, I don't ever remember being in shul, and not seeing your dad. Your dad helped make the world a more welcoming, cheerful and better place. Your loss is the community's loss. My heart goes out to you at the chasm of emptiness that we will all walk around, but will never be re-filled. xoxoxo

Dear Donnie and family, I was shocked to hear about Barry’s passing. I will never forget his dry sense of humour, his kindness, his love for our Jewish traditions and his intolerance to hear his beloved Hebrew language mispronounced . I will be forever grateful for his patience and kindness to teach me to chant few verses of the Torah for an Alyah. To coach me, he sacrificed his early Sunday mornings for two months. Barry was a Renaissance man and a Mensch. May his memory be a blessing. He will remembered with love by all who met him.
