Anita Gurman - 1 day ago

Dear Louise, I was really stunned and saddened when I heard if the passing of Edgar. He was truly a very special human being. He was a compassionate, caring man, who treated both his patients and staff with the utmost respect. His was an exceptional pharmacist. The depth of his knowledge was often seen in the many lectures and talks, he gave to both staff and volunteers; and also those on a personal level. He was very easy to talk to. I recall all these special assets, which I will never forget, when he took care of the meds for my late daughter, Susan. I will sorely miss our weekly waves when I passed by the Testing Centre, where Edgar was volunteering, when I was on my way up to volunteer on the 8th Floor; and our good byes when he was leaving the Shuttle Bus, and leaving the hospital. I wish to convey my deepest condolences and sympathy to you and your family. May you all be comforted by the special memories of a very special man, who it was my privilege to know. Rest in peace Edgar. Take Care. Anita.

Dear Louise, We have known each other in different contexts over the years. I was a long time neighbour of your late parents on Circle Road and met you during that time. I recall the vital role Edgar played in their lives, as a pharmacist and caring colleague, during that difficult period. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Louise, Words cannot truly express how heavy my heart is over the loss over our dear Edgar. The man, whose passion and dedication as an oncology pharmacist is unmatched, even in his retirement years, served as a wonderful example to all of his former colleagues. His larger-than-life personality, infectious laugh, endless supply of kindness and generosity will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all those whose lives he's touched. He always had an uncanny gift to make everyone feel special with his welcoming demeanor. To me, he was a mentor and loving grand-father figure who showed me how to be a better pharmacist and more importantly, a more compassionate human being. I send my deepest sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time. Along with you, I will forever cherish Edgar's memory and remember all the joy he has brought us. May his soul rest in peace. Much love and respect

Frances Roback and Steve White - 5 days ago

Dear Marc and Ellen, Louise, Tara, Richard, and Carl: Steve and I are heartstruck to learn about Edgar, our family’s elder statesman. Our family looked to Edgar when the need was there, and Edgar responded with his giving heart. When Rebecca died, Edgar and our dad teamed up together to clean out her apartment and find homes for her enormous collection, and they did so with grace and good humour. Years later, when Lea could no longer manage on her own, our mother appealed to Edgar for help in finding a care home. And once again Edgar sprang into action to look after Lea and see that she was safe and comfortable and well taken care of. Above all, we remember Edgar's warm smile, and that lovely Robackian humour and banter. Our sincere condolences to you all, Francie and Steve

Shelley Solomon - 5 days ago

Dear Tara and Louise, It was not long ago when Edgar was seen daily at the JGH post retirement sporting a blue volunteer jacket. Always a smile and kind word to all. My fondest memories were my visits to his wonderful pharmacy on Queen Mary Rd. He allowed us to run a tab. When I was in elementary school I could go in on my own and purchase a Birthday gift for my girlfriends e.g. Bonnie Bell. The pharmacy was one of my late father's (Dr. Morris Solomon) habitual stops on Saturday morning to enjoy chatting with him and Lois at the front before heading off to the barber a few doors down. May his gentle spirit be a source of inspiration and comfort to you, your families and all who had the good fortune to know him.

Dear Louise, What a tragedy. What a loss. Of course you and your close family feel the loss most of all, but those of us who knew him well feel an emptiness, a loss as well. Edgar was a true and gentle man, always with a ready smile and we were proud to be his cousins and for him to be part of our family. Whenever we were together it was always a happy and pleasant occasion. He and I were tennis partners and he showed his leadership when he arranged for everyone in our group to rotate and to play with every one else. Louise, Tara, Richard, Carl and Marc: So sorry to learn of Edgar's death. He was a warm-hearted person with a good sense of humour, who regularly helped my late mother - his cousin - with pharmacology advice, moral support and other things. Edgar remained on good terms with my late dad, long after my parents had divorced, and would visit him in the hospital near the end of his life. But it's his smile and good-natured banter with my father, decades ago, that really made an impression. During more than the occasional Saturday, my father would ask me to tag along on domestic errands - the first of which sometimes involved a stop at Edgar's drug store on Queen Mary Road. There, my dad would politely ask if Edgar wouldn't mind cashing a personal cheque, as banks were closed and there was no e-commerce in those halcyon days. Edgar was always pleasant and happy to do the favour. Always. Condolences from Karen and myself.
