Dr Perlman, tu vas me manquer. Farewell my friend!

Dearest Ben, Jon shared with me the awful news of the sudden loss of your Dad’. I am heartbroken for you . I then turned to the obituary and the condolences posted on line. What an extraordinary, gifted and caring guy he was...... a physician, an entrepreneur, a hockey player but most of all, as a deeply devoted present and Dad, Grandfather and husband, whose family meant the world to him . I know what an unimaginable loss this is for you, your Mom and family. I have warm and beautiful memories of you, Ben, as a favourite and lovable Watitoh counselor of Jon’s. . I am thinking about you. May you find strength and courage as you grieve, surrounded always by your Dads love and the beautiful memories you shared . Annette, Ellen, Charles and families, I am so sorry for the recent loss of your Robert. I first met Robert at Camp Champlain along with Ellen and Charles. I met you and your sister either at Dawson or at McGill. I met Robert over the years in TMR or at Bethel and we caught up, I remember telling him my daughter was at McGill Medical School and he was hoping she would decide to stay in Quebec. It was always nice to meet him and catch up on our lives. Annette I know and understand what you are going through as I have been there. I hope you will be surrounded by love and a good support system, it will help. Covid makes it difficult to be together. You and your sons and family need to be strong for each other and go forward day by day. Know that you are in my thoughts. Linda Mann Gewurz

Alexander Singer - 1 day ago

Robert was such a kind and fun-hearted man. He was constantly pulling my leg. I remember when we'd play street hockey back in the day with David and Ben, usually the three of us against him, yet he'd always win. Only when I was a little older I understood he was usually cheating, in a funny and obvious way once you were old enough to catch the joke. He somehow melded the serious and the funny, you always felt at ease with him (at least when you weren't wondering, "wait, is he pulling my leg again?", since he would usually keep a straight face until you clued in). When I was older I started seeing him for my aviation medicals, even - once I'd moved to Ottawa - coming back into town to see him for them. You felt he was there to keep you safe, it wasn't a test where he was trying to screw you. So I always would share any medical things on my mind, and he never said "you know, that's not really relevant to what we're here for, take it up with your family doctor", he always would take an active interest and help. I remember this one time I was suffering from an acute type of issue and he took an extra half hour to figure out what the problem was and actually he was able to fix it on the spot. I came to the office in significant pain and left completely ship shape. Robert was such a big part of growing up on Normandy, and was part of that sense of home I had every time I would return. When we'd see each other when I was in for a visit we'd always come together and chat - and only sometimes about the Canadiens! He was also such a good friend to my mother, and was there for me and my sister when she passed. Annette, David, Ben, I am so sorry for your loss. You (and Jayden) did right by him today.

My most heartfelt condolences to the Perlman family, whom I only knew from the many pictures on the desk and walls of Dr. “Bob’s” office. They spoke volumes about him. He was a true gentleman in the old sense of the word, and the most looked forward part of any aviation medical, was sitting opposite him in his office and the many stories of Scuba diving, Europe, bureaucracy, and the Brits. One would always leave with a smile and a hand-shake, time well spent! He will be sorely missed by those of us in the Pilot community. Rest in Peace Bob, and Thank You.

Many people don't know this but Dr. Bob was Bombardier Corporate Flight Operation's "Flight Surgeon" for our flight department. We were part of his great program "Carte de la Lune" (which he sold me on) and our pilots had access to him all over the world 24/7. He was they type of guy who never made a pilot nervous when they went for a medical and many times when something did happened it was Dr. Bob who fought for them to keep flying. When my wife was showing signs of MD I took her to see him an he was able to get her to the right people, and fast (I will always be grateful to him for that). He did make us laugh... like the printer running out of ink and the hearing test (but I'll keep those ones between myself and those who know). I'm just really gonna miss him... so I can only imagine what a huge loss his passing is for family and close friends is. David Neeleman says "The ultimate litmus test of whether one's business (and life) is serving others is by asking, "do you matter?" Dr. Perlman really mattered... and to so many of us.

So very sorry, for Robert's family, but in particular, his sons, Ben and David. We had so much fun with him and you at the Olympics in 2010. And I got to see your Dad a few more times over the years when he visited Thunder Bay. Even had him out to the island. He was such a good guy, and loads of fun. Like his picture, I'm smiling thinking of him right now. Robert is one of those guys that you just wished you had another day to spend with him.

My deepest and sincerest sympathies to the family, loved ones and colleagues of Dr. Robert Perlman. He was a big part of both the Canadian and European aviation industry and easily one of its most colourful individuals. When I did my annual medical with him, I always made sure I was not in a hurry as I knew I would be spending time listening to his many great tales and of course taking his advice.  Above all, he was an exceptional doctor. I think I can speak on behalf of myself and my colleagues at our airline when I say that we are all really going to miss him.

Carol and I wish to express our great sadness for you, Covid took away our sport and locker room and Bob passing took a big part of our collective camaraderie away. Dear Dave, Ben and family Please accept Jeanie's and my deepest condolences. We are with you in this extreme moment of sadness. Dr, Bob was a great guy and he was a pleasure to be around. For several years, we would come across each other at the gym.He of course wanting to chat and me wanting to work out.Invariably, we would engage in funny exchanges(sometimes serious) that would leave me in better spirits. To this day, one of the funniest moment in my career is seeing him pop up in the middle of a client event for a few drinks. The brothers rolling there eyes but not looking that surprised and the rest of us cracking up. That being said, he was very competent professionnal. After many attempts by so called experts, he figured out in minutes what was wrong with my back and fixed it. Again, my heart goes out to you.He will be missed. Your friend Faf

Dear Annette, Ben, David and the entire Perlman family, It’s with great sadness that I heard the news. I have had the privilege to know and work with Dr. Bob for over 25 years. In every encounter he would always speak so highly about his family and share stories about his boys and grandchildren that he loved. You knew when you were going to meet Dr. Bob, he would have a story for you and make you laugh. Countless times I would meet Dr. Bob at his office the day after a hockey game, and he would come in smiling, laughing and clearly in pain, but loved playing hockey. I will miss him greatly. My condolences to the entire Perlman Family. Becky Ohayon

Ben, Dave and Perlman family, my heart goes out to you during this trying time. I think I first met Dr. Perlman at one of our GMP grand prix parties!!! While we joke that he came for a bite, I'm 100% certain he simply couldn't pass up the opportunity for some time with his two boys. He had a story for every occasion and simply lit up the room. I didn't know him well but I do know that the tremendous partnership, comradery, and respect that his two sons have for each other could only have been passed down by someone with exceptional love for their family. Sending love, Love Sunshine, Alex and Wellington Zeagman
