Dear Hymie, Bernice, Warren & Matthew Annie was a dear old friend going back to our days at Northmount High. We live in Vancouver and I did not see Annie very often but when i did it was like old times. i spent an evening with her when she lived in Cote St. Luc and she showed me all the things she was selling on ebay with her usual energy and zest for life. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed by everybody especially her family who were her pride and joy.

Dear Bernice and family, I would like to offer you my most sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. A woman of great business acumen, Annie was a perennial presence at the Bagel King. She was a helpful and generous person; a friendly face who didn't care whether you were buying $1.00 or $100.00 worth of food. She always wanted to know how your family was doing. For those of us who grew up in V.S.L. she was a reassuring presence, someone we could rely on. I hope that you will be comforted by the wonderful memories that you have of her.

Dear Bernice and family, So sorry to hear that your mom passed away. Sincere condolences on your great loss. I will always remember her fondly as being the most gracious and lovely person. I remember so many things from your basement filled with Coca Cola memorabilia, to her and your dad always giving my dad extra kichel and cookies, to knowing Bagel King wasn’t a pit stop but a family stop on the way home. I would run into Anne on occasion and she always had a smile on her face. The Bagel King hat your parents gave my dad was a relic and keepsake we will always remember. To Anne’s husband and all the children and grandchildren, may your memories sustain you through this difficult time and know that Anne will be remembered always by those whose lives she touched. To the Family of Annie, I too have such fond memories of Annie that go back to Fairmount School and remember well going to her house on Clark St. with Roberta Golden. We then were in the same Class at Northmount High School graduating in 1960. I recall her being an excellent student and a fine and lovely person. In l97l my husband and I lived in St. Laurent for a short while and would see each other at the bakery and talk of the Old Days. In later years whenever we would run into each other she was so warm and interested in my life and family. So very sorry to her children and to Hymie who I do remember well from Fairmount School as well so many years ago....My sincere sympathy. Annette Eisner

Shocking news for me when I learnt that Anne Shapiro had passed away. She was a part of my childhood as we attended Fairmount School together . Many times we walked over to her house on Clark Street. I can see her older sister Reeva putting lipstick on, as we watched her. We lost touch when she married Larry after attending Northmount High while I stayed at Baron Byng. We became friends again when I moved to St. Laurent and went to their bakery. Anne was the eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side and taking action. She had a thirst for learning, taking art classes, languages, attending lectures along with continuing her work at the markets selling her jewelry and other vintage items. Anne & Larry encouraged me to sell on Ebay when it became popular. She valued hard work and wasn't afraid of it. Although we hadn't been in touch in the past years, I often thought of her and Hy as we all were in the same class at Fairmount School, grade five, Mrs. Asner. I could go on and on with a collage of memories throughout our lives. Suffice it to say that I send my deep condolences to Hy, Bernice, Warren, and Matthew and their families. Your mom was a class act, warm and giving, generous and empathetic. Rest in Peace Annie. I'm sorry I never called you over the last few years to touch base and to even let you know that Lewis, (husband) had passed away one year ago. Life is fragile and we must appreciate every moment and good thing in our lives and take nothing for granted just as Anne did.

Dear Hymie and Family, We were very disturbed to find out only this morning that Annie had passed away when we read the gazette today. There aren't enough words to describe how I felt about Annie from the time we became friends in grade two till today when I said good-bye to her, prior to my leaving for Florida. In the past three months each week when I spoke to you about yourself and about Annie, I hung up the telephone and cried. What can I say, is that I lost a very good friend. May she rest in peace now.

Dear Bernice, Warren, Matthew, and Hymie. This is truly a sad time as we mourn the loss of your mom, wife and our beloved Auntie Annie. Auntie Annie was incredibly special. Going back to the days she lived with Bubbie and Zaydie, then moving upstairs in the duplex when she married your dad, Bagel King, Petit Lac Long, Seders, St. Laurent and the list goes on... . She always brought a big smile to everyone's face and only had good things to say. Never had a bad word about anybody or anything. I remember my dad would always refer to Auntie Annie as his 'kid sister', even when he was 90. For those of us who had the privilege of having her be a part of our lives, thank you for sharing her with us. Auntie Annie had a great spirit, and even bigger heart. Hymie - thank you for taking such good care of her and for making sure we all got a call from her on holidays and special occasions. Getting those calls meant a lot. She will be well looked after now by your Dad, Bubbie, Zadie, Ray, Charlie, Irving and Willie. We are all better people for having had Auntie Annie be part of our lives. May she Rest in Peace.
