Beverly, You were my "big sister", my mentor, my best friend since I was a child. I looked up to you with envious eyes. How could I ever attain your standards?? I will miss you more than words can express. You suffered for so many years. I am glad that you had the tremendous impact you had on students, friends, and fellow patients. Your place in Heaven will reflect your loving concern for your fellows and good works. May you rest in peace and may your memory be for a blessing. To everyone who loved and respected Beverly, Hard to find the words to honor such a selfless individual. Beverly was my teacher as well too many years ago at Wagar, but she really left her mark on me in my function as admissions officer at Maimonides where I had the chance to talk to her, really talk to her on an almost daily basis. Her constant advocacy for the residents was warmly felt. I’m honored to have many of Beverly’s Jewish holiday cards decorating the walls of the admission office. Beverly had many many loyal friends who advocated for her, that’s how appreciated and loved she was by those who were most near and dear to her, and I include myself among them. I will miss you Beverly, rest peacefully. Tracey Winter

It is rare to find those voices of advocacy when in the height of one's strength--but Beverly's leadership and commitment to social justice never waned---NEVER. We have been so touched by her Holy Work and always felt her as an ally, as did so many in every domain she touched. What better legacy is there than that! Her memory will surely be for a blessing --Yehi Zichra Baruch! Rabbi Ronnie, Karen, Kitra, Tamira, Briah, Dvir/Shalhevet and Sapira Cahana

Beverly Spanier was an inspiration to so many. She was my grade 9 teacher at Wagar. Her ability to get the best out of her students encouraging them to excel, changed me forever. She was also compassionate and made it very clear that everyone in her class was to be treated with respect and kindness. Her example lives on within me and so many others. She was one of a kind.

Dear Friends, We will never forget Beverly and the impact she had on our lives. She knew her passing was inevitable and was not afraid. Her courage was the core of who Beverly was. She lived up to the mitzvah of treating her fellow Jews, everyone her life came into contact with the way she wanted to be treated. It was an honour and privilege to be her friend. May Bev's neshama be protected through our many acts of loving kindness. Nancy and David

Each of us has our reasons to know Beverly, to love her, and to remember her. She was the champion of the underdog, fiercely independent, and fighting for everyone who could not stand up for themselves. Beverly could be the sweetest, most caring person, but you did not cross her. "No" was not a word in her vocabulary, and when she set her mind to something, nothing was permitted to stand in her way. She inspired generations of students to think for themselves, follow their hearts, and do what's right. Beverly was selfless, sharing her art, her possessions and her advice with all freely. Her group of friends was eclectic, accomplished, and amazing, and I am honoured to consider myself one of them. We all immensely enjoyed the holiday and birthday get togethers that she managed to set up and orchestrate, despite her limited mobility. I baked her hundreds, if not thousands, of cookies over the years to enjoy and to give away, and in return, she gave me the all-encompassing warmth of her friendship. Beverly, we will miss your big heart and bigger personality. There will never be another like you. Thank you for everything.

Baruch Dayan Emet. Beverly was a force, whether she was advocating on behalf of people who needed home care, as she did when she still lived on her own, or on behalf of fellow residents at Maimonides during the pandemic, she was as strong as she was selfless. For many years, she made the High Holiday third service at the Shaar Hashomayim happen. A remarkable soul who lived to do good.

I am shocked and tremendously saddened on the loss of Beverly. For nearly two years she was my father's neighbour across the hall at Maimonides. I would often speak to Beverly and thought she was such an interesting and articulate woman. We had some amazing conversations about her teaching career, (candid stories about her Wagar students!) Beverly spoke highly about her brother Dr. Allan Spanier as well. I will truly miss seeing her as she was always funny and truthful. I will cherish the Purim card that she made for my father this past March. My she rest in peace and her memory be a blessing. Naomi

I was fortunate to have Beverly as my friend. We met years ago at the Shaar Hashomayim every August as Beverly was preparing for High holiday 3rd service, which she organized for neurodiverse young adults. Then fate put us together again when Beverly was admitted to Maimonides Geriatric hospital, where my mother lived . Despite her physical handicaps Beverly always want to help others. She encouraged me when my mother was facing the end of her life. I will always remember her funny stories of her own life which she shared. I was privileged to be included in her many heartwarming joyous holiday parties . I will miss her very much. May the memory of a life well lived sustain her friends & family in this mourning period. Sincerely Rhonda Bob Benjy & Melissa I will miss her.
