Many good and warm memories arise as I think of my Aunt Maya – she was not very talkative, she was just generous and I Always felt welcome. As Kids, Ilya and I Always waited for our summer vacation, to take train to Chmelnitzky ,the whole Adventure of it! Small Kids are like dogs – they love certain smells and good Food – so was I – I loved the smells of Aunt Maya’s kitchen, there were always tons of good Food – in Chmelnitzky and in Montreal – and it brings warmest childhood memories. Her kotletki tasted divine, made with love. I always felt good in her home. She survived the Horrors of the second world war as a kid, and it definately left ist implications on her life – she suffered anxieties and often worried About Family. Despite her anxieties she was very brave and courageous – she took up contact to Aunt Riva and Percey, she was not afraid of KGB and invited Aunt Riva and Sarah to Chmelnitzky, and she hosted Aunt Riva many times, Always being at Risk. So, all us being here today, is her doing, and I and my Family will Always be very grateful for that. She was generous, she gave easily and enjoyed it – I have got quite a few of her jewelery that I enjoy very much. She was honest, she Always told what she thought and she was Always interested in what was going on in my life. This is how I will remember her, and this is how I will continue to cherish her Memory in my heart.
