 Agnes Terizia Horvath  (June 9, 1928 - March 4, 2026)

Agnes Horvath (nee Rauchwerk) was born on June 9, 1928 to Jeno Rauchwerk and Margaret Rauchwerk in Budapest, Hungary. As a teenager she apprenticed in the fur business but was a concentration camp survivor along with her mother during the Second World War and the Holocaust. After surviving the war, she continued in the fur trade and was married to Ferenc Horvath in 1946. Together they continued in the fur business for several years in Budapest, Hungary but escaped from Communist Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution along with their nine-year-old son, Peter, and her parents, and emigrated to Montreal, Canada on January 6, 1957. They were a hard-working couple, and eventually they established a successful fur business in the city and raised another son Raymond, born in Canada.

Raymond’s friends knew his mom well and lovingly described her as a unique character.  Raymond always felt safe knowing his mom would hug him if he felt sad and encourage him if he doubted himself.  She would sacrifice herself so she could be generous to her family first.  She dearly loved her parents and children, grandchildren Alexander and Julian, and her husband, Ferenc.  She was married to him at the age of 18 until his death more than 76 years later.

Agnes was a kind, gentle, and loving person, but also a strong individual to be able to survive the wars, concentration camps, and immigration to a new land. She loved her connections with the people in the community and was well known and loved by them. She will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.

Funeral service from Paperman & Son, 3888 Jean-Talon West on Monday, March 9 at 2:00 PM. Burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva strictly private.
