Holocaust Survivor
Peacefully, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in her 92nd year. Devoted wife of the late Robert Verebes for nearly 60 years. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Lucy and Stewart Shapiro, and Tom Verebes and Nicole Izsak. Incredibly proud Nana of Adam, Justin and fiancé Lexy, and Grandma of Rubin, Sam, and Elisha. Dear sister-in-law of Jutka and the late Andras Verebes. Eva will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to Maryse Malka and Doctor Prchal for their exceptional care and devotion.
As a child, Eva’s extraordinary strength enabled her to survive the horrors of the Holocaust. At the age of 21 she and her husband Robert fled Hungary during the Revolution, and built a new life here in Canada. She carried that same strength with her always.
Funeral service from Paperman and Sons on Sunday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at the Hebrew Sick P Section at Baron de Hirsch Cemetery. Shiva at her home. Donations in Eva’s memory may be made to the Montreal Holocaust Museum at (514) 345-2605 or click here.
Eva’s remarkable intelligence enabled her to impart so much wisdom onto all those whose lives she touched. She was a woman ahead of her time in many ways. She shared her loving energy with everyone who knew her.
