Peacefully, after a courageous battle on Saturday, January 31, 2026, surrounded by her family and her life long friend Cathy. Beloved wife of Mikael Abitbol. Loving and devoted mother of Joey, and Rebecca (Jonathan). Extremely proud “Bubby” to her baby Riley, the light of her life. Daughter of the late Morris and the late Seyma Akerman. Sister of Harold. Caring aunt of Daniel (DJ), Jessica and Stephanie (Luc). Karen will be immensely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
The last few months of her courageous battle weren't easy, but she carried herself with strength, grace, and positivity. The determination to see the birth of her grandchild motivated her in her fight. We are extremely thankful to the team at Teresa Dellar Palliative Care. They made her stay so positive and fulfilling, and allowed her the dignity she deserved. The staff and volunteers were beyond attentive.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Tuesday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Baron de Hirsch Community Foundation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield.
