Yahrzeit

7th of Tishrei, 5787

Leonard Philip (Label Fishel) Slapak died peacefully at home on September 18th, at the age of 76.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Sivan (aka Susan) and Sharon, son-in-law Shaun, and grandsons Ethan and Aden. He is also remembered by his former wife of 27 years, Cheryl Everett Rajchgot, mother of his daughters.

Son of Luba Kopanski and Berl Slapak, Holocaust survivors whose previous spouses and children were lost, Leonard had two half-brothers whom he never met but always missed.

Leonard worked at Slawner Ortho for 42 years, where he made and fitted prosthetic limbs for amputees. His patients included many children who were flown in from across the world, which was especially meaningful to him, and many remained in contact with him for years. The excellence of his work, his devotion, and his training of others in the field over decades were well known and highly regarded.

Leonard was a broadly talented person. He was also a photographer, a self-taught and innately able technician whose skills and scope of knowledge encompassed engineering to artistry.

He’ll be missed for his humour, warmth, and endless “seykhel.”

Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon West on Sunday, September 20th at 1:00 pm pm. Burial at Baron de Hirsch cemetery, De la Savane.
