We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Phyllis Mendell, née Leibovitch, age 90, on Sunday September 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Montreal on June 6th, 1935, Phyllis was a lifelong Montrealer. As an accomplished sculptor, her works were exhibited in galleries across Canada and the USA. As she moved into her later years, her creativity continued through her paintings and intricate jewelry. Phyllis had a zest for life and loved to travel, stay active and spend time with friends and family. Her incredible sense of style and wonderful sense of humour will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Michael Mendell, children Mark (Sharon) and Karen (Michel), sister Merle Kronick (and the late Rubert). She was a cherished grandmother to Maya, Ethan and Cameron. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and countless friends.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the 5th floor staff at Maimonides for their care and kindness.
