After a twenty-five year long, exceptionally courageous battle with MS, Susan Gabori Hausmann, daughter of the late George Gabori and Judit Varadi, passed peacefully this Monday, May 19, 2025 . She will be profoundly missed by her husband of thirty-five years, Dani; her brothers and sisters in-law, Andres, Mark, and Joetta; her cousin Jutka; her nieces and nephews Ryan, Andrea, and Maria; and her many longstanding friends both here and abroad.
Accomplished documentary filmmaker at the NFB and CTV, award winning author of three non-fiction books fearlessly exploring the secrets of lives and hearts, and Sulayman, a novel set in 11th century Spain.
Special thanks to Dr. Jack Antel at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Dr. Popescu at Maimonides long term care centre for their unflagging support and compassion, to the staff of the 5th and 2nd floors at Maimonides Geriatric Centre for their attentive kindness, to Susan’s companions, Dianna, Leonora, and Zahava for their patient devotion, and most of all Lana for her love and commitment.
Susan’s courage, resilience and above all her smile, under the most trying of circumstances were a shining beacon to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on Friday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at the Shevet Achim Congregation Section, Back River Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lajeunesse St. Shiva at her home. Contributions in Susan's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
