Alvin Schacter

Peacefully on Thursday, August 28th in his 85th year.  Beloved husband of Shirley Druker.  Son of the late Jack and the late Jean. Devoted father and father-in-law of Kerry, Stacey Schlein, Robbie, and Yasmin Mathew. Cherished brother and brother-in-law of Fred and Ellie, and brother-in-law Esther and John Plaskon. Adoring Grandpa of Ilana, Shane and Julian. 

Special thanks to Maimonides Geriatric Centre, 3rd floor (North): Dr. Greenberg, nurses, PABs and other staff. Their unwavering dedication to Alvin will always be remembered.

Alvin was greatly admired by all who knew him, appreciated for his warmth and integrity. Trained as an accountant, he quickly rose to positions of significance in the world of Montreal business as an executive and a leader. He was known throughout his career for honesty and wisdom. He treated everyone with respect at every level of every company in which he worked. In his personal life, he made lifelong friends at every stage, and maintained friendships dating back to his earliest days in Outremont. Alvin had many hobbies and passions, including playing, watching and coaching sports, playing bridge, traveling the world and finding the rare opportunity to relax. Most importantly, he and his wife of sixty-one years, Shirley (Woody), were partners in an epic love story, devoted to each other every single day, through thick and thin, good times and bad and all the days in between.

Funeral service at Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on Sunday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m.  Burial at the Montreal Workers Circle,  Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva at his home following burial from 7:00 pm to 9:00 p.m., and on following days from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 p.m. Shiva ending on Friday, September 5th.
