Huguette left us peacefully and gracefully on Thursday, March 12th, 2026, in New York City after a most courageous battle with Parkinsons. She is the daughter of the late Bahia Hazan and the late Isaac Lisbona, and was the devoted wife of the late Lewis Batshaw for more than 50 years. Daughter-in-law of the late Honorable Justice Harry Batshaw and Dr Anne Tarshis. Sister-in-law of the late Tziporah Wiseman.
Huguette is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Natalie (David) and her adored grandchildren, Lexie, Ava and Jacob who brought her immense joy and pride. Nothing made Huguette happier than time spent with them. Her bond with Natalie was especially close, one rooted in deep, unconditional love, friendship, sensitivity and unwavering support. She is also survived by her siblings Mireille (Joe),and Andre (Glenda), and Robert (Beatrice), as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember her warmth, wisdom, and generosity of spirit: Shari (Mark), Jamie (Naomi), Rhonda (Howie), David (Samantha), Allan (Leslie) and Sabine.
Huguette devoted her life to caring for others. For more than 35 years she worked as a social worker at the Jewish General Hospital, where she was deeply respected by colleagues and made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless patients and families. Her compassion and quiet strength left a lasting mark on many lives. Huguette was a woman of tremendous fortitude, in her professional and personal life, and despite the challenges life brought on, she stayed humble, resilient, and patient.
Above all, Huguette will be remembered as a woman of kindness, grace, and deep devotion to her family, whose greatest happiness came from being surrounded by them and taking care of them.
Graveside service will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Friday March 13, 2026 at Kehal Israel Memorial Park, Beit Abraham Congregation Section, D.D.O.
