Peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Josef for 61 years. Daughter of the late Bella, Usher and Chaim. Devoted and loving mother of Jeff and Joy. Cherished grandmother of Bradley and Marlee, Randee and Evan. Adoring great-grandmother of Jake, Maya Belle, Cole, Keri, and Richie. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Sam and Elaine, David and Cathy Minsky. She will be lovingly missed by her nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Paula, born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1935, was a child Holocaust survivor. The world she knew, filled with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, was completely destroyed. Her entire extended family was murdered, leaving only Paula and her mother as survivors. Despite the unimaginable tragedies she endured and the childhood stolen from her, Paula grew into an articulate, educated, and intelligent woman. Her experiences as a child Holocaust survivor shaped a life dedicated to kindness, compassion, love, and service to others. Throughout her life, Paula devoted herself to helping those around her. Whether raising her refugee family, volunteering and leading Hadassah fundraisers, or training with the Spielberg Shoah Foundation to interview and preserve the testimonies of Holocaust survivors in Montreal, she remained deeply committed to her community. Paula continued this commitment as a dedicated docent at the Montreal Holocaust Centre and through presentations to schoolchildren of all faiths and backgrounds. Teaching tolerance, understanding, and the devastating consequences of intolerance became one of her life’s greatest missions. Paula refused to let the tragedies of her past define her future. Instead, she transformed her experiences into a lifetime of purpose, compassion, and service. Her life was defined not by what had been taken from her, but by all that she chose to give to others. She lived a full and meaningful life, guided by her convictions, her ambitions, and her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
Special thanks to Dr. Ruby Friedman for his care and compassion, and to her caregivers Marlene, Mellessa and Mimi for their incredible devotion.
