Edith (Edie) Maryam Torobin (Née Etcovitch)

It is with profound sadness that Brian and Jackie announce the passing of our dearly loved mom Edith in her ninety-ninth year on Monday, July 14 at Maimonides Geriatric Centre. Beloved wife of the late Simon (Sy) Torobin.  Daughter of the late Molly Needleman and the late Jack Etcovitch. Sister and sister-in-law of Allen and Thelma Etcovitch, the late Rita and Maurice Nayer, Allan Torobin and the late Mary Ellen (Rusty) Torobin, Marcia Gelman Torobin and the late Leon (Len) Torobin. Step-sister of the late Phyllis and the late Sam Bernstein. Much loved Auntie “DeeDee” and Aunt Edith of Jeremy and Chrissy Torobin, Tamara Torobin, Gerry and Louisa Bernstein, Neil and Elaine Bernstein, the late Eli Bernstein, Irwin and Marla Nayer, Elliott and Marlene Nayer, Richard and Hilary Nayer, the late Jack and Anne Nayer, Joy and Bruce Gornitsky, Andrea Etcovitch and Eric Etcovitch. Adoring and proud great-aunt to many in Canada, the USA and Israel.

Devoted community leader and friend to the ladies of B’nai Brith Women, Beth Zion Congregation, Adath Israel Congregation (Toronto), Green Valley Golf Club and the Jewish Peretz School parents’ community. Brian and Jackie would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff of Four North at Maimonides - a truly amazing team who cared for our mom as if she was one of their own. 

Graveside service on Thursday, July 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Congregation Beth Zion section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at Maimonides (5795 Caldwell, Côte Saint-Luc) Thursday following burial until 5:00 p.m. (in the family room), Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (in the small chapel), Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (in the small chapel), Monday and Tuesday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (in the family room).
