Mackie Balcan (née Alper)

On Sunday, July 13, peacefully and with loved ones at her bedside. Mackie’s ferocious personality and fearless spirit guided her in a lifelong battle with a relentless disease. She has left this earth to be reunited with her beloved husband George. 

Daughter of the late Barney and Beatrice Alper, Mackie was a devoted sister to Suzan (Zeis) Lazanik and cherished aunt to Gillian Lazanik (Dany), Brian Lazanik (Debbie), and their families. She also leaves behind much-loved cousin, Michael Salsburg (Iva) and their son Jake Salsburg (Amanda) and baby Oliver, as well as cousins Peter Laywine and Wendy Gitelman (Bruce). 

Mackie will be deeply missed by her extended family, friends and by all who loved her. Very special thanks to Dr. James Gruber, Dr. Sana Swaleh, Dr. Charles Olivier Basile, incredible CF Nurse, Jade Ostiguay-Robillard, ICU super nurse Roby and devoted and lifelong friends and supporters Denis Charbonneau, “surrogate daughter" Jennifer Roman, and son-in-law, Bob Hendriks.

Funeral Service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Wednesday, July 16 at 2:00 pm. Private burial to follow.
