Peacefully, surrounded by love and family, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Beloved and adored husband of Rhona Shavelson Cappel for fifty-seven years. Devoted father of Lee, and Nancy Cappel. Cherished and much loved Popsie of Jonah and Tyler Cappel Offman, and Matthew and Jillian Fabian. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Elaine Cappel and Wilfred Kravitz, and uncle of Meredith and Zach Paikin and their three beautiful children. Will be deeply missed by David Fabian.

Barry brought humour into any life he touched and room he walked into. He taught his family the value of laughter. He put his family first, demonstrating the importance of hard work and dedication, characteristics which his grandchildren have taken with them into careers of their own. A skilled athlete, Barry took pride in his many athletic accomplishments and passed his love of sport onto his children and grandchildren, always cheering them on.

Barry also took much pride in his career as a lawyer, notably in his role at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the MUHC. Special thanks to the staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital at The Glen who repaid his years of service with care and kindness in his final hours.

Barry led a full and meaningful life, was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Much gratitude to the dedicated staff of Maimonides Geriatric Centre, 6th floor (South).

A strictly private funeral and shiva will be held.
