It is with profound sadness and deep love that the family of Bernard “Bernie” Ship announces his passing on October 6th, 2025.
Bernie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Husband of Leona for 61 years. Cherished father of Harold (Keren), Donna (Jeffery), and Daniel (Jessica). He adored his grandchildren Norman (Kana and Akiva), William, Lily and Shivam.
Son of the late Ray and Carl Ship. Dear brother of Michael (Nancy) and the late Larry (late Lorie), and brother-in-law of the late Aileen Tenenbaum, the late Ben Ami (Tina), Lotte (Phil) Manel, and Sheryl (Ervin) Weinberger. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Bernie shared wisdom and humour with all those who knew him. He had a deep love and support of Israel, was a long-time supporter of the Ottawa Food Bank and volunteered for many years, both with the United Way, as well as helping Russian Jewish immigrants, mostly seniors, get settled in Canada. Bernie loved shmoozing with his friends over coffee and enjoyed his many winters in Florida.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Friday October 10, 2025, at 11:30 am at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street, Ottawa.
