Peacefully on Thursday, July 16, at the age of ninety-three. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Carole Mendelsohn Padveen. Devoted and loving son of the late Sarah and the late Myer Padveen, caring son-in-law of the late Abraham and the late Sonya Mendelsohn. Brother and brother-in-law of the late Albert and the late Rita Padveen, the late Eileen and the late George Rothbart and the late Martin Mendelsohn. Family meant everything to Jack and he was most proud of his children, Stephen and Susan, Cindy and Ed, and Stewart and Natalie. Proud grandfather of Corey and Meeve, Jaimee and Jonny, Ryan and Jesse, Tina and Adam, and Candace; and great grandfather of Chloe, Hunter and Maddie.
Jack was a highly respected dentist in the Montreal community for forty-seven years, known for his intellect, professionalism, his gentle touch and soothing ‘hum’. He was devoted to his patients and was always there when they needed him. He had a lifelong love of gambling, from Jai Alai in Florida, horse bets with his late father-in-law at Blue Bonnets and the bright lights of Las Vegas. “Vegas Jack” came to life at the blackjack table. Those trips brought him so much joy and created so many happy memories.
Jack had a dry sense of humor and he will be forever remembered by his children and grandchildren for his funny faces and “unique” rendition of the happy birthday song, whether at home or in the middle of a crowded restaurant. These memories will forever bring a smile to the family as they carry on these traditions.
Special thanks to his warm and wonderful caregivers, Ana and Gia, the 6th floor nursing staff at Maimonides, and the doctors and nurses at St. Marys hospital for the incredible care he received.
