Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and retired dentist, passed away on September 11,2025—five days after his 102nd birthday—at his home in South Burlington, Vermont. Seth was born on September 6, 1923, in New York City, and grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

In 1951, as a member of the Air Force, Seth accepted an offer to be the base dentist at the Ethan Allen Air Force Base in Colchester, VT, which began his 74-year residence in the Green Mountain State.

Seth’s dental practice flourished through the years. By the time he retired at age 75, he was one of the most appreciated - and oldest- practicing dentists in Burlington.

After his first marriage ended in divorce, Seth married Myra Hoffman Rothman of Montreal. He treated her four children – Sheindl, Michael, Karen, and Aviva – as his own. The couple traveled extensively and spent many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona.

For a city boy, Seth thoroughly embraced Vermont’s outdoor life. He particularly enjoyed skiing, tennis, sailing, and snowmobiling, and was a proud member of the 70+ Ski Club in his later years.
Seth was a true Renaissance Man. He had eclectic tastes in music, ranging from classical to comedy, and skillfully played the piano until age 99. He was a savvy early adopter of technology, sported an Apple Watch and could advise young and old on computer related issues  from Windows to Photoshop. Sethie posessed an amazing capacity to remember details from past decades, including which roads and highways to take around Vermont (and beyond) and which subways to take in New York City regardless of the destination. He loved to tell (and laughed the hardest at) “dad jokes” before that term even existed. Sethie loved ice cream and ate it regularly, which was probably the secret to his longevity.

Seth was predeceased by his beloved wife, Myra, in December 2022. Theirs was a fun, devoted and loving relationship, where they appreciated and cherished each other every day.

Left to mourn are his children: Robin Barovick and Antoine Polgar (East Middlebury, Vt), Beth Barovick  and David Saltzman (Wayland, MA and South Hero, VT), Sheindl Rothman and Jack Rudnicki  (Montreal, QC), Michael  and Rhonda Rothman ( Atlanta, GA ), Karen  and Murray Diamond  (Titchfield, England), Aviva and Clemens Reuter (Herrliberg, Switzerland), He had 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Sethie was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by his family and large community of devoted friends and neighbours.

Sethie lived a long and good life. Shortly after announcing that he was ready to go, Sethie died peacefully at home, surrounded by love. He did it his way...

We are sure that he and his Myrala are dancing together in the clouds.

Services were held on Sunday, September 14, at 11:00 AM at Temple Sinai on Swift Street in South Burlington with interment following at Hebrew Holy Society Cemetery, Patchen Road, South Burlington, Vt.

If you wish, donations in Seth's memory may be made to The Montreal Neurological Hospital, ALS department: donations.neuro@mcgill.ca -

We are not sure if it has been recorded.

If you are interested in attending a memorial event in Montreal, kindly send an email to sheindlrothman@gmail.com..

This will be a joint event in memory of my Dad, Howard S Rothman, who died August 30th,  and my second dad (my stepdad), Seth H. Barovick , who died September 11th.

And finally, as Sethie would have asked, Are you a turtle?
