Peacefully, on Wednesday, November 20th, at the age of ninety-two.

Adored wife of the late Sam Kanofsky. Cherished daughter of the late Pearl and the late Harry Levine, and ‘baby” sister to the late Miriam Goldberg (Larry), and the late Soulie Levine (the late Eva Levine).

Deeply loved mother and mother-in-law of Gary (Sabrina) Kanofsky, and Laura Kanofsky (Ari Kleiman). Loving and doting grandmother of Maya, Joshua, Hannah and Chayna. Sister-in-law of the late Rhoda and Bill Ornstein, Recia and the late Howie Bell. Cherished “Auntie Fagel” of Sheila, Eileen, Bonnie, Donna and Leslie and great-aunt of their children.

Florence attended Strathcona High School and McGill’s Macdonald Teachers College, and taught elementary school for many years before pivoting to law firm administration. She and Sam moved to California in 1979, first in Palm Springs and then Los Angeles, where she continued to forge deep, meaningful relationships with friends and colleagues, and relished the growth of the family. Later in life, the entrepreneurial spirit summoned - and she founded a highly successful legal staffing business in Los Angeles.

Florence possessed a uniquely driven and magnetic personality.  She inspired her family, friends, students and employees to be their very best. And she led by example, defined by the pursuit of excellence in all her deeds.  Above all, it was her kindness, acts of generosity and selfless interest in attending to the needs of those around her which were her highest priority.  She will be missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives she affected profoundly - in her hometown of Montreal, and ultimately Los Angeles.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Jean English, Sheree and the Ayres Home staff, and the Dynamic Hospice team for their devotion and loving care in recent years.

Funeral services will be held at Hillside Mortuary in Los Angeles, Monday, November 24th at 10:00am pacific / 1:00pm eastern.
