Lovingly known as Googie or Bubbie by her family, but most of all at Jewish Eldercare Centre, the beautiful curly hair Gertie, Fashionista of Hope 4C.
Devoted wife of the late Jack Stein. Daughter of the late Leah and Isaac Gampel. Loved, adored and devoted Mom of Marilyn and Seymour Kaye, Phyllis Stein and the late Martin Collier.
Seymour was Gertie’s treasured Son who supported and loved her. Seymour’s endless love and caring for her deeply made her life so much easier to cope with because he was always there emotionally every day to make sure that her needs were always met.
Loved by her grandchildren, Adam and Daiana and great grandchildren, Gabriela and Tamara, Lee and Erika, Lawrence and Erika, and Melissa. Sister of the late Fay Margolis, her late brothers and late sister in laws, Hymie and Katie, Louis and Lyla, Nat and Sunny, Danny and Lillian Gampel. She was given her special nickname Aunt Googie, by her loving New York family, Arthur, Ronnie, Leah and Faith Umansky. Their special bond with their Aunt Googie was always happy times for all of them!
Gertie will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. She will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her. Our Mom held this family together like glue and our hearts hurt with this tremendous loss.
Thanks to cousin Deborah Gampel for being Aunt Gertie’s companion for the last years of her life. Cousin Mark Gampel for his Friday Shabbat visits, they were greatly appreciated. Gertie will always be associated with her Combined Jewish Appeal family where she worked for over 30 years until she retired at age 83 years young.
Upon arriving at Jewish Eldercare Center, we were truly blessed to have Alberte Phaeton as Gertie’s companion for 10 years. Their days were filled with laughter, singing, making sure her trademark red lipstick, red nail polish on and purse in hand, she was always ready to go!
Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hope 4C for their kindness and support. Especially to Susan de Los Reyes for her kind and wonderful care. Jewish Eldercare Center was a wonderful and supportive home for our mom and entire family, as they guided us through this difficult journey of over 11 years.
