Israel Sonny Mass

Peacefully, after a brief illness, on Shabbat, Saturday, September 20, 2025. Beloved husband of Ann Shirley for fifty-five years. Loving and devoted father and father-in-law of Marla Weinstein and Marvin Shahin, Jeffrey and Marie-Claire, Jamie and Stephen. Proud and cherished Zadie of Ethan, Liza, Dylan, Jacob, and Mattie. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Allan and Yvonne, the late Esther; and brother-in-law of the late Mona. 

Sonny will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was a respected Superior Court Judge for over twenty-five years. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU at the Jewish General Hospital for their exceptional care and support. 

Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon West, on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.  Burial at the Zichron Kedochim Congregation Cemetery, Beth Israel and Samuel Section, de la Savane. 

Due to the advent of Rosh Hashana shiva at his home following the service until 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations in Sonny’s memory may be made to the “Israel Sonny Mass Memorial Fund” ℅ the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, 514-340-8251. 

Sonny was a man of integrity who led by example, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
