John Garmaise

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, in his seventy-eighth year. Loving brother and brother-in-law of Ellen Garmaise and Howard Chodos. Son of the late Avram and the late Eudice Garmaise. Dear friend of Arthur Levine. Companion of the late Thelma Bierbrier. John will be missed by his friends, and all those who knew him.

John was endlessly curious about the world around him — a devoted reader, passionate about politics and current events, and someone who never shied away from a lively discussion. Sociable and cultured, he moved easily between conversations about books, ideas, and his beloved Montreal Alouettes. He had a genuine interest in people and in the world at large, always eager to learn more and to share what he knew.

Graveside service on Monday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beth Israel Gardens section, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Duvernay (Laval). Shiva strictly private.
