HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR

It is with profound sadness that the family of Jozsef John Benedikt, a truly extraordinary man, announces his peaceful passing at his home on Monday, July 27, 2026, in his ninety-sixth year.

Devoted and cherished husband and soulmate of the late Miriam for sixty-four beautiful years. Caring and loving father and father-in-law of Anat and Jeff Gerstein, Jordan Yoav and Susie Benedict. Proud and devoted Saba of Brandon Gerstein and Lindsay Lubov, Dr. Lindsey Gerstein and James Malorni, Tyler Gerstein and Colter Hall, Shawn Benedict, and Kyle Benedict. Adoring great-grandfather of Brooks, Maeve, and Gia.

Son of the late Ignác and the late Hajnalka Benedikt, and brother of the late Márkusz Benedikt and the late Lilike Benedikt, all of whom perished in the Holocaust.

Heartfelt gratitude to Lelis Bulosan for her exceptional and loving care, and to those at the Cummings Centre and CLSC René-Cassin for their unwavering care and support.

Jozsef will be dearly remembered for his warmth, generous spirit, and the love he gave so freely. Despite the horrors he endured during the Holocaust, he chose to live with hope and unwavering determination, touching the lives of everyone who knew him. He proudly served in the Israel Defense Forces and carried that same courage throughout his life. He was the heart of his family and the most loving man anyone could have known. His family was his greatest joy, and they will forever honor his memory by living with the same love, compassion, and zest that defined his life.

Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon Street West, on Wednesday, July 29, at 12:00 noon. Burial to follow at the Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation Cemetery, de la Savane.
