On Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 82, Linda Schwey, beloved wife of the late Jack Petersen, passed away peacefully.
Linda and Jack shared a wonderful marriage, a quirky sense of humour and a life together in Denmark, where they lived throughout their marriage. Following Jack’s passing, Linda returned to Montreal.
Linda was actively involved in politics and her community. A longtime supporter and volunteer with the Liberal Party of Canada, she was the Liberal candidate for Châteauguay–Saint-Constant in the 2008 and 2011 federal elections. She also served in a role representing the interests of seniors in her community. Linda volunteered at Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum in Saint-Constant, was a member of the Danish Club, and was involved with many other organizations over the years.
Linda was a remarkable person who genuinely liked everyone she met. She was outgoing, warm and nonjudgmental, and took a sincere interest in the people around her. She loved her niece Karen, nephew Ian, and their children dearly, and once took all of them on an East Coast road trip, sharing with them her tremendous love of Canada. Linda also cherished her weekly outings with Roz at Bâton Rouge, where the two would sit and talk for hours.
Linda was the daughter of the late Max and Rae Schwey, and sister of the late Mel Schwey.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Arlene Schwey; her niece Karen and great-nieces Madison and Alexa; her nephew Ian and great-nephews Daxton, Rowen and Wyatt; and her cousins Roz and Alan, Dorothy and Charles, Shoham, and the late Barbara.
Many thanks to the oncology staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and to Linda’s caregivers for their care and compassion.
