Peacefully at home, on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Wife of Professor Bernard Shapiro. Mother and mother-in-law of Jackie Kwitko and David Greenway, Dr. Geoffrey and Paula Kwitko of Florida. Sister and sister-in-law of Eleanor Roth, Frances and Stan Schill; and sister-in-law of Professor Harold Shapiro. Grandmother of Alexandra Greenway, Michael Kwitko, Daniel and Melissa Kwitko. Lois will be fondly remembered by Bernard’s children Marvin and Andrea Shapiro, Arlene and Lorne Cooper and their families. Predeceased by her parents Sam and Sadie Roth. Lois grew up in Montreal in the midst of a very large extended family, the Steinbergs, the Sheiners, the Garelicks with many aunts, uncles and cousins all of whom enriched her life and to whom she remained connected and grateful. Always a free spirit, she retained that “joie de vivre” her entire life. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Samuel Benaroya whose constant care over many years was unparalleled. The family will also be eternally grateful to Lois' caregivers: Denise, Stephanie, Zibu, Elizabeth, Tamica and Irene, each one of whom enhanced Lois’ quality of life in recent years. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, January 4 at 12:00 p.m. Burial at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 ch. de la Forêt, Outremont.
