It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful matriarch, Matilda “Mati” Kolender. After a courageous and dignified battle, surrounded by the love of her devoted family, Mati is reunited with the love of her life, her beloved husband, Asher z”l.

Mati and Asher shared 68 wonderful years together, building a family that spans generations. Mati was Asher’s Queen and the absolute center of their kingdom. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and the true purpose of her life.

Cherished and adored mother and mother-in-law of Nira and Yair Altman, Galy and Marvin Shapiro, Orly and Robert Gold, and the late Sheldon Novack z”l. Loving grandmother, affectionately known simply as “Mati,” to Ganit and Phil, Adam and Allison, Meagan and Alex, Allie and Snir, Kayla and Michael, Ryan and Laura, Tara and Andrew, Brooke and Richie, Mandi and Corey, Danielle and Dean, and Matthew and Caryn. Proud and adoring great-grandmother to Avery, Ellie, Harper, Neeve, Vivian, Aria, Hazel, Noah, Mason, Emma, Arie, Mia, Milo, Arielle, Emmy, Ruby, Valerie, Ori, and Heidi, who filled her heart beyond measure.

Daughter of the late Avraham and the late Batsheva Machiach z”l of Israel. Sister and sister-in-law of Leah and the late Yona Funt z”l of Los Angeles, and Moshe and Rachel Machiach of Israel.

Mati was extraordinary—elegant, stylish, beautiful, and full of life. She was the mother and grandmother everyone wished they had: always present, deeply involved, and living with unwavering strength, remarkable grace, and boundless optimism. She faced life’s challenges with courage, never complaining and always finding a reason to smile.

She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished by her family, including her valued in-laws, Irene and Irving Novack, Bev and the late Irving Shapiro z”l, and Laura and the late Natie Gold z”l, as well as by her beloved best friend, Kochava Kalo.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ghoche and Jill for their unwavering support and guidance.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort knowing she is once again in the arms of her beloved Asher. Together, their love, values, and extraordinary legacy will continue to guide our family l’dor v’dor🌈
